I demand that you 'follow' Kim English

I'm still not certain how I feel about Twitter, still unsure whether I need to hear what everybody thinks about everything . But one of the positives of the social-networking service is how it provides a glimpse into the minds of many of the college basketball players I cover and by extension helps me better understand their personalities.

For instance, Georgia Tech might be the nation's funniest team.

I know this because of Twitter.

Iman Shumpert and Alade Aminu are both consistently hilarious, whether they're Tweeting about basketball, television or life in general. Those guys make me laugh. And so I'll be thrilled if Georgia Tech is great this season, because I know (thanks to Twitter) that there are at least two Yellow Jackets with pretty good senses of humor.

Here's something else I learned via Twitter: Kim English is a cool dude.

You remember Kim English, right?

He's the Missouri guard most famous for pinch-shooting free throws during the Tigers' second-round win over Marquette in last season's NCAA tournament. Like most college students, English now has a Twitter account, and he comes across as smart, funny and well-rounded when he Tweets. Naturally, I like him. And now I'm going to try to help him, because English is in the middle of a Twitter Race against Missouri football player Sean Weatherspoon, and, together, I'm certain we can push him to victory and all that it entails.

So here's my request/demand: Follow Kim English!

Just click this link , then click the "Follow" button.

It's fast and simple, and it'll likely change your life.

Or not.

But who cares?

All we're trying to do here is see if we can push a basketball player past a football player.

If it happens, I'll take credit.

If it doesn't, I'll blame you.

Either way, it'll be fun.

First to 2,000 wins.

As interesting as Kimmie is on Twitter and Facebook, he's even cooler in person. I had a chance to meet him and his family at the Regional Final in Phoenix last year. English is so dedicated to improving his game, he (literally) sleeps in the gym quite often, because he's always there practicing.

As a fan, I love how Facebook and Twitter can give a more personal glimpse into a player's personality. But if I were a coach, it would make me nervous. I think Mizzou football coach Gary Pinkel has sat down his entire team and basically said 'hey, I can't stop you guys from tweeting, but I am gonna lay down some ground rules and drill it into your head that you shouldn't post anything that you wouldn't want the whole world, including the media and opposing teams, to hear.' And I think that's the right approach

Update: English 1255, 'Spoon 1341

We have closed the gap but are still well behind: 1255 to 1341 -- Apparently we are only good for about 100 or so Gary.  You may have to pump up the volume a little bit.

Done.  Other demands will not be responded to so quickly, however, so don't get too power hungry.
