Pastner to add second Top 10 recruit tonight

Josh Pastner is about to land another elite recruit.

This time it's a local product.

"I am committing TONIGHT at the Larry Finch Center at 6:30 pm," likely McDonald's All-American Joe Jackson posted on his Facebook page early Friday. "Come support me and one of the biggest decisions [of] my life. ... Kansas, TN, Memphis. What [is it going to] be?"

For those unfamiliar, the Larry Finch Center -- technically the Larry O. Finch Center -- is the practice facility on the University of Memphis campus. So it should come as no surprise that multiple sources have told CBSSports.com that Jackson will verbally commit to Memphis tonight (over Kansas and Tennessee) and provide what should be a wild scene in his hometown.

"Joe loves the city and he wants to be a Tiger," one source told CBSSports.com. "He was always going to be a Tiger."

Thus, this is hardly a shock. Things have been headed this way for months, honestly, and Jackson spent much of the past week dropping hints on Facebook . Even so, it's still huge news in the recruiting world if only because it means Pastner will now have commitments from two top 10 prospects from the Class of 2010 despite the fact that the 31-year-old former Arizona player is still yet to coach his first game.

Serious question: Has something like this ever happened?

"The closest thing would be John Calipari [getting] John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins [this past offseason before ever coaching a game at Kentucky], but obviously Cal has coached [games] before," said longtime recruiting analyst Justin Young, who runs the National Hoops Report. "But other than that, no sir."

Memphis will now become the nation's only school with commitments from two Top 10 prospects.

One of those commitments is Will Barton, a 6-foot-5 guard from Baltimore.

The National Hoops Report ranks him sixth in the Class of 2010.

The other is obviously Joe Jackson, a 5-11 point guard from Memphis.

The National Hoops Report ranks him ninth in the Class of 2010.

King Kong,

What is there to HATE on? Should be the question.  Have your drove by the Liberty Bowl lately? Great stadium let me tell you ... we all are jealous of that.  Obviously your not that bright of a guy - Rick Pitino won the regualar season and championship in the hardest basketball conference to win in all of the land.  Ohh yeah The Ville was also the #1 overall seed in the NCAA tourney this past year.

Keep trying my dude.

Ville 3,

The main point is, not all teams in the SEC, Big East, Big 12, etc. have won titles or have a better progam than Memphis but they are still a member of those leagues. Memphis is coming up in the ranks and it's nothing that you haters can do but HATE on us. We are earning everything we get so we will continue to win in basketball even if we stay in conf. USA, Always have and always will.

One other thing, UofL's current coach is a Hall Of Fame coach for what he did at UK.....hehehehehehe!.......sloppy seconds!

King Kong,

Louisville's last 2 coach's are HALL OF FAME.  Well respected and most importlant have NCAA National Championship rings.

Unlike any coach that has ever coached at Memphis St.

If you all are so well respected then you would have been invited to join the Big East.

The Memphis program doesnt even come close to matching up to The Ville.

BCS Bowls - College World Series Teams - Consistently Top 10 program in basketball ... brand new downtown basketball arena that abosolutely puts the Fed Ex Center to shame.

There is nothing to hate on - like I said win something 1st - then talk big and bad.

About your Pitino comment - Godfather to you - I would rather have a Rick Pitino anyday of the week than Josh Pastner - he might be an up and coming guy - I will give that to you - BUT look at the resume - it speaks for itself - unlike Memphis.

Coming in 2nd place one year doesnt mean anything - matter fact that year was erased Mr SAT !!!

THE Ville 3!....

We do understand that the only thing being talked about in the UofL's din is how your coach paid for some tail, killed his baby, cheated on his wife, and got caught in the end. Nothing good at all over there.

You are welcome to come into the TIGER's din but don't run your lips!

No, we have not won a title. However, we are sure as hell going after our goal of winning one.
Memphis is one of the most uprising programs in college B-Ball and the TIGER fans are extremely excited about it. But you haters want to shoot us down at ever turn. I wonder what will be said once we win a title....("Memphis, shut your mouth, we will not respect you until you win 2 titles" ).

Just like the 2007/2008 season when we made it to the final. After the first round of the tourney, every game from that point on we were predicted to lose each game. And every game we kicked butt. We were even beating
Kansas until the last minute of regulation which the coach lost the game.

So I say to you and the other haters, PLEASE keep bring the hater aide and we will keep climbing to the top!

MEMPHIS FANS:

When you win a National Championship then you can talk smack - until then keep your C-USA mouths shut.

People respect schools with TITLES.

Memphis has ZERO.

JDZ033! Thanks for wishing the TIGERS well this coming season. Now as for as us never being in the conversation of UCLA, Kansas, Duke, and UK, ...who cares! Our Tiger's goal is NOT to be anything like these teams, IT's TO BE THE BEST of all teams.

If you really stop for a moment and truly look closely at how the game of basketball is growing and the numbers of extremely talented ball players that are popping up all over the world, teams such as UCLA, Duke, Kansas, UK, NC, etc. will no longer only be the small group of schools to only have top talented players. Over the next 15 to 20 years college basketball will truly be unpredictable. Currently, every year the UCLA, Kansas, UK, NC, and the Dukes' are pretty much a lock for making it deep into the NCAA tourney with only one possible Cinderella team. That soon with not be the case. So, enjoy the past history of college B-Ball and the same school dominance while you can, SOON the dominance of the same group of teams will be a thing of the past.

JDZ033! you said that " Tiger Din is irrelevant when it comes to college basketball!  Go Bruins!" I say it was relevant when the TIGERS kicked UCLA out of the tourney!...but uhmmmm, we are irrelevant. Ok...whatever you say.

As for our new coach, he has proven to everyone that you cannot rule him out and you sure as heck cannot rule the TIGERS out. Stay turn and learn. even you may become a TIGER fan.

As for as turning on coach Cal, I'm a TRUE BLUE & GREY TIGER FAN and I'm one who still like coach Cal. I think he did a very good job while he was here. I appreciate everything he did here for the TIGERS. I for one wish him well and much success. Do I think he's a little dirty .....YES!..But I think a lot of coaches are dirty because college B-Ball is a very profitable business and you need great players to play in the big time. The presser is on the coaches as well as the players. Everybody wants to win! Dirty coaches go back much further than Cal and they will not end with Cal.

GO TIGERS GO!!!

King Kong! I wish you and you're tigers nothing but the best in the upcoming season.  They will never be in the conversation of UCLA, Kansas, Duke,UK !  The Tiger Din really ate me up!  I'm really scared of what this program could do to college basketball over the next couple of years!  I feel they will be the next Pittsburgh, young coach who gets all the hype and never produces that final four!  Tiger Din is irrelevant when it comes to college basketball!  Go Bruins!

I do find it amusing that Coach Cal is irrelevant to your program now being that he is the one that has gotten it to this point!  Interesting how quickly the big bad Tiger Din can turn on you!  What a Joke!

I love people that are so biased that they live their lives on these stupid chat boards discussing their programs.  It's called a life!  Why don't you go buy one with that Fedex money!  I'm a UPS guy myself!  It's childish to write on these boards and I thought I would participate to get you idiots fired up and it worked.  Wow what an easy crowd!

Great Hire by Memphis

Memphis made a great hire in Josh Pastner. They got a young up and coming coach who is a big time recruiter.

Kentucky bought a two time cheater who is going to land UK on NCAA proabation.
