KU predictably predicted to win Big 12

Kansas was the unanimous pick to win the Big 12 in a vote of the league's head coaches, the conference announced Wednesday. Because coaches cannot vote for their own teams, KU could only get 11 of the 12 first-place votes. The other went to Texas. Which means KU coach Bill Self is responsible for UT's first-place vote.

The entire poll is as follows:
  1. Kansas
  2. Texas
  3. Oklahoma
  4. Kansas State
  5. Texas A&M
  6. Oklahoma State
  7. Missouri
  8. Iowa State
  9. Texas Tech
  10. Baylor
  11. Nebraska
  12. Colorado
This marks the ninth time in 13 years that Kansas has been picked to win the Big 12.

KU predictably predicted to win Big 12

Kansas and Texas are obviously cemented at the top of the conference. After that, the madness ensues. I'm biased, but I think Missouri has a chance to finish third in the Big 12. We've got offensive question marks but our defense will carry us, as it did last year for the most part. The thing is, I could see Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Iowa State (yep, I said it) also finishing third. 3-8 is a crapshoot. I'm personally high on OK State. Travis Ford really exceeded my expectations last season and they've got a deep enough roster this year to really help Ford run his preferred style of play. And also, this team will actually have some size this year, meaning the Cowboys won't have to rely solely on Marshall Moses in the post as they did last year.
Baylor and Nebraska might be able to break into that "top 8" with a little luck. I expect Colorado to be a little more competitive. We saw some life from Bzdelik's boys near the end of last year.
Texas Tech will finish dead last, mark it down. Pat Knight seems overwhelmed in Lubbock. The team didn't defend last year and was basically a turnover machine for 40 minutes. Could be young Knight's last year at Tech (though I wish him well).

KU predictably predicted to win Big 12

Gary,

My picks for the Big XII for 2009/2010 are:

1.    Kansas
2.    Texas
3.    KState
4.    Oklahoma
5.    Texas A&M
6T   Oklahoma State
6T   Missouri
8.    Iowa State
9.    Baylor
10.  Nebraska
11.  Colorado
12.  Texas Tech

So, I'm not too different from the coaches, except, I think that KState has an advantage over OU in returning talent and they pick up Wally Judge who helps offset the additions of Gallon and Mason-Giffin to OU.

OU plays in the Big XII South, which is a tad tougher than the Big XII North, IMO (I'm usually for the Big XII North, being a KU fan), but the truth is the truth. So my take is that I think the Big XII's unbalanced schedule gives KState a small advantage too. True they play at OU, but they also play @ TTech and @ Baylor, two winnable road games and they get to play Texas, Tex. A&M, and Ok. St at home, with no returns, no refunds. So they play 3 of the 4 toughest Big XII South teams at home, and play home and away games against the weaker North division.

Also, the coaches must have more confidence in Pat Knight in his 2nd full year at Tech, and the now all-too familiar JUCO infusion of talent, but Tech plays @ Nebraska and @ Colo. and again, plays in the tougher Big XII South, where they will have home and aways with 4 of the top 6 Big XII teams (If the coaches are correct), while Colo. and Neb will only have home and aways with 2 of the coaches' top 6. I think that is advantage NU and CU!

Baylor has more talent than the other 3 bottom teams, even if they haven't figured out how to play defense or be disciplined, but then again, which of those bottom 4 teams has???

BTW: I've started a Big XII Blog...my first topic was a recap of last year's NCAA tourney...Check it out!

My Blog is titled:  Big XII Men's Basketball Throw Down!

and it can be found at:

I enjoy discussing college bball, and yes I'm partial to the Big XII! This year seems to be a good year to be a Big XII basketball fan!
