The SEC media poll and preseason awards have been released.
Kentucky is picked to win the league.
That's smart.
John Wall was voted Second Team All-SEC.
That's dumb.
In fairness, Wall actually finished second to teammate Patrick Patterson in the Preseason Player of the Year race with six votes, so five people besides me on the 25-person panel voted him that way. And yet Wall still somehow ended up Second Team All-SEC, which is crazy, and you'll see why in time, I'm certain. Speaking of, I have a friend who watched Kentucky practice recently. When it was over, he sent the following text: "Just done watching UK practice. Wow. John is incredible. Most vocal and best leader they have. "
So take that for what it's worth.
Anyway, the SEC Media Poll results are as follows:

Wall voted Second Team All-SEC by (dumb) mediaNot DUMB at all if the 5 votes he got for Player of the Year came from 5 people who voted him 1st Team All-SEC, but he didn't get enough other 1st Team votes to make the 1st Team...

Wall voted Second Team All-SEC by (dumb) mediatigergreg,
Only 6 of the 25 voters voted Wall as POY. Gary doesn't say how many votes Patterson received, but I would guess that he received most of them. So the majority of the other 19 of the 25 voters probably DID think there were two guards better than Wall, in fact they would need to have voted that way to make Wall a 2nd teamer! |

Wall voted Second Team All-SEC by (dumb) mediaGary I live in Alabama (although I'm a Florida fan) and I've got ask what you see in the Crimson Tide? I'm not sure how many times you've seen them in person recently since their outside of the national spotlight most of the time, but there's not a lot of talent there on paper. I watched a few games last season, including Alabama-Georgia Tech in Tuscaloosa. Ronald Steele looked great in that game, but about a week or so later he left the team. You have them third, but this team struggled without Steele last sesaon and went 18-14 overall. Since then they've lost Demetrius Jemison for the season and have a lot of question marks. I personally have them sixth in the SEC West .
Is it because you believe in Anthony Grant (because I think he will be a great coach) or am I missing something when I look at the Crimson Tide? |

Wall voted Second Team All-SEC by (dumb) mediaWhat is really dumb is that that they voted him him second for POY when they didn't even think he was one of the top two guards.
