Adreian Payne has committed to Michigan State, Scout.com's Dave Telep and Evan Daniels are reporting.

The 6-foot-9 center picked the Spartans over West Virginia, Kentucky and Arizona.

Scout.com ranks Payne as the 19th-best prospect in the Class of 2010. He's the fourth recruit from the class to commit to the Spartans. The others are shooting guard Keith Appling (No. 44 in the Class of 2010), shooting guard Russell Byrd (No. 84), and power forward Alex Gauna.

calzone12 - yes, dillusional indeed

Is this a joke. I almost think you're posing as a dillusional Kentucky fan, just to make fun of them. But you're actually that dillusional.

BTW, Payne MSU's best player? Best shot blocker, maybe. Maybe not though with Roe.

MSU now has two top 5 bigs at their position. Guess what, neither one is going to be the best big on the team, let alone best player. Thats going to be Draymond Green. I cant wait until UK and MSU meet over the next 3 years. You dillusional UK fans will have to pick your jaws up the floor when the #125 ranked recruit owns your ass. He's that good.

BTW, someone else said MSU doesnt get 5 star recruits. Yet they're averaging like one a year for a Decade off the top of my head.

Richardson
D. Roe
M. Taylor
Z. Randolph
P. Davis
K. Torbert
S. Brown
M. Cleaves
A. Payne

A few more top 50 guys right on the 5* bubble
Lucas
Chris Allen
D. Summers
Ager
A. Anderson
C. Bell
Erazum Lorbek
Tom Herzog

Payne picks Michigan State

I know for a fact that Payne was not a high priority for KY.
Had he been, Cal would've signed him.
We have bigger fish to fry.
Don't get me wrong - he's a really good player and a very good get for a school like Mich. St.
But, he's only good enough to be a back up plan for KY.
He's a 5 star, okay. But, he's a lower echelon 5*, who would have spent bench time ,or had to red shirt for the Wildcats.
He'll do well @ Mich. St., but he's not the firebreather that will lead them to a Natl. Championship. Trust me. You'll see.
If he's going to be their best player, no way they win the NC, baby.
Go Wildcats!!

UK HAS 4 QUALITY BIG MEN - What's the point?  He was going to have to sit and learn...so it's more about playing time than "choice".

UK has 4 big men - where would this kid see playing time?  I think that was the deciding factor - not MSU over UK.

Orton will be back next year......and with either T. Harris, T. Jones or CJ Leslie coming in the front court would have been crowded.....UK can't get all the recruitsTongue out

Payne picks Michigan State

If Adreian Payne has any hope of going to the NBA he did the right thing in picking MSU over Kentucky. Calipari is terrible at developing big men and thats why I think Cousins and Patterson will struggle this year in this offense. John Wall will shine if he plays.

Excellent point. The dribble drive offense doesn't post up players very often, if at all, so the only offense a "back to the basket" big man can hope for is a drive and dish for a slam/layin or an offensive rebound.  You have to be able to post up to be a big in the NBA.  Patterson's scoring numbers will undoubtedly drop this year just because of the change in offensive philosophy and the increased talent around him.

Cal's offense, on the other hand, is perfect for point guards, shooting guards and even small forwards looking to go to the next level because it puts a premium on athleticism and the ability to take a man, one on one, off the dribble.

Coach Izzo gets some solid players but actually gets very few 5-star recruits like Payne.  He did get Delvon Roe from last years class but usually gets a lot of 3 and 4 star recruits.  This is fine with me as the majority of his players stay around at least 3 years and usually 4 years.  The only issue you have too deal with having 5 star recruits is that they usually only stick around for one year of college basketball.  I won't complain though as one year of Adreian Payne is better than not getting him at all.  It would be awesome if he stayed around a few years to develop his game but I don't see that happening.  I doubt Delvon Roe would still be at MSU if not for the serious knee injury he suffered in high school.

Note to halo27legend:

Your obsession with Cal amuses me. Kentucky will never simply "get anyone they want" unless the other 342 or whatever division one universities vanish from the face of the earth. You are far too preoccupied with the psychotic fringe of the Big Blue Nation and your rabid distaste for John Calipari. What--great players are now going to stop heading to Michigan State or North Carolina or Syracuse or wherever else JUST because Calipari is now at Kentucky? Give me a break!
