Calipari just won't foul late, will he?

There is plenty of time to discuss how Kentucky fell behind by 18, why it failed to get back on defense early, and whether DeMarcus Cousins will ever start a game without picking up senseless fouls. Important issues, all of them. I'll address them at some point.

But first things first: How does John Calipari not foul Kenny Hayes?

(Stop me if you've heard this one before.)

Calipari's team was ahead by three points late, but rather than foul and send Miami (Ohio) to the line -- which is generally accepted as the proper way to handle the situation -- Calipari opted to let the players play, and the result was a Hayes 3-pointer that tied the score with six seconds remaining. It was the latest version of Chalmers for the tie ... Got it! -- the same sequence that cost Calipari the 2008 national title when Mario Chalmers hit a 3-pointer, forced overtime and helped Kansas to an eventual 75-68 victory.

The only difference this time: John Wall.

Man, what a clutch shot.

The freshman point guard and likely top pick in the 2010 NBA Draft struggled early, forced things and committed five turnovers. But when it was time to do it, he did it. The CBSSports.com Preseason National Player of the Year took the ball length of the court and sank a jumper with 0.5 second remaining. Final score: UK 72, Miami (Ohio) 70.

Far as debuts go, it was impressive.

Wall got 19 points (on nine field goal attempts), five assists and three steals.

More important, he made the non-foul not matter.

For that, Kentucky is fortunate.

To all the kansas fans who where bashing kentucky,  looks like you all have more to worry about than ky, at least ky is a young team and had trouble what is the jayhawks problem.  You guys are returning 9 of your leading scorers from last year and only put up 57 points on a team that everyone is saying john calipari left  in the dumps, took all the players and ran. lmao

Us UK fans are just letting yall run your mouths. We know what happened and were just happy with the W. Us true UK fans are taking it a game at a time and letting all you smart asses act like UK just lost in the first round.... again. IF that makes you feel better then please do think like that because i want you to get as comfortable as you can because it'll make it that much funnier when your on the edge of your seat during a down to the second game dealing with Kansas. It's 2 games in the season, still 30+ left to go. Let's just sit back and let the boys on the court do the talkin so that none of us have to take our foot out of our mouths.

I would like to say that I am utterly embarrassed at the Kansas fans that come on here to bash UK for no reason at all. I used to like watching Kansas but my eyes have been completely changed at how I view Kansas fans. I haven't seen one yet that has been objective and reasonable opinion about UK as a team. I expect it from Cardinal fans and maybe some UNC fans, but I have no idea why Kansas fans feel the need to come on here for the sole intent to bash UK. I don't know, that's just really surprising to me. Do you not have anything better to do in Kansas?

Might I add, everyone is talking Wall this and Cousins that, the nation better watch out for Kentucky's most dominate player... Patrick Patterson. That's right, I said it. He can hit free throws too.

All these Kansas fans are mad because people who don't really follow college sports see KU and think of Kentucky not Kansas.

Kentucky's teams from the previous two seasons would have lost the game last night.  That shows improvement already.  Plus we have some studs that will come around in a couple months.  Watch out for the Cats in March!

I've never seen anyone stroke 8 of 10 threes, it was scary to watch. I kept wondering if he'd ever miss.
No doubt about it, last year Kentucky would've folded under that onslaught.

It going to be fun watching this team finding it's stride, because there's so much upside
so watch out for the Cats

...and watch out for Billy Clyde, he's out there looking for a job somewhere
with a drink in one hand, his boyfriend in the other hand
and no hands on the wheel
