Harris signs with Tennessee

Tobias Harris, as expected, committed to Tennessee on Thursday.

"I really have a great relationship with Coach [Bruce] Pearl and his assistant coach [Tony] Jones," Harris said. "It's just a family atmosphere down there. I got along with the players real well, and it's just a great opportunity and fit for me."

MaxPreps.com ranks Harris No. 21 in the Class of 2010. The 6-foot-8 forward joins Trae Golden (No. 59) and Jordan McRae (No. 87) to comprise a three-player class that should be among the Top 15 classes nationally when team recruiting rankings are finalized.

Harris is from New York.

He also had offers from Syracuse, Kentucky, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Louisville and West Virginia.

Harris signs with Tennessee

I am unsure why all the KY and other TN haters even need to comment here.  Get a life.

Not a one of us is boasting.  We are just trying to have fun on the court.  It may lead to wins, it may not.  We are glad to win 25-31 games a year.  From where we came from in 2004 this is nothing short of a resurrection.

We'll have fun.  You can get a life!

Go VOLS!

I did check my facts and in 1977 Bernard King was "consensus" 1st team All-American and Ernie Grunfeld was "consensus" 2nd team All-American. Also, I really should give a nice thanks to Ernie because he is primarily responsible for getting our AD to talk to Bruce Pearl and bringing him to Knoxville as Tennessee's coach.

Go Vols!

Always nice to meet a fan, but I'm thinking Tennessee makes it past the Sweet 16 THIS year!  Probably behind the scoring of Scotty Hopson who I'm guessing will join that list of All-Americans that you are talking about before he leaves.  I will have to check my facts but I'm thinking Ernie Grunfeld was an All-American too, but I could be wrong.

I'm going to assume the reason he went to Tennessee instead of the real basketball schools that were also recruiting him is because he will be able to play right away and will be the star of the team.  But still, being the star of Volunteer basketball is no real accomplishment.

How many Consensus 1st team All-Americans has Tennesse had?  2 Bernard King and Dale Ellis

How many players of note have gone to the NBA from Tennessee?  3  Bernard King, Allan Houston, and Dale Ellis

Tennesse has never been past the sweet sixteen and has only made it that far 5 times.

Hell of a basketball history there.  I'll give them credit for making the sweet 16 in 2007 and 2008 but Tennesse is a football school in a football conference and doesnt know what to do with a solid basketball recruit.

My prediction.  He never lives up to his potential and Tennessee fails to make it past the sweet sixteen during his career.

tigerluvrnsacto Has Memphis won any championship in basketball?  I don't think so.  I went to the memphis game last year at TBa and i go to memphis and tennessee football games Memphis has annoying fans as anyone. At the basketball game last year they were cussing with little kids around them.   I just stated a fact Memphis has a sucky sports program.  I know Tennessee only has sweet 16 banners  but Tennessee still got a top 5 player to commit.  All of Memphis top players transfered or followed Coach Cal to Kentucky.  How is that your football team plays in Conf-Usa and can not win a game?  Only thing that Memphis is better at than Tennessee on occasion is Basketball.

Uh, OK.  Not sure how you came up with that considering the story said nothing about his intelligence.  Then again it's not like the bar is set all that high at UK.  If Cal sees a kid with skills, he'll get him, regardless of whether or not he qualifies.

Mascotvol, that was artistic! I never thought I'd see a TN fan become even MORE obnoxious, but you've done it! You guys are just like KY fans; living in the past. The truth is Memphis HAS played for a basketball national championship twice. Memphis HAS gone to 3 Final Fours. Memphis actually HAS gone further than the Sweet 16. TN will choke in the NCAA tournament like they always do. At least Memphis fans aren't dilusional and respect true programs like KS, UCLA, Duke and UNC. Those fans respect other great programs and are classy. TN fans think classy means you put your shoes on for vittals in town!
