Michigan also said goodbye. As did Xavier, Maryland, Tulsa and Illinois.

I expect an outcry because I included six teams from the Big East, but I could make an argument for a seventh -- Marquette.

I await your reaction.

If UNC manages to go 2-1 against MSU, UK and Texas, they deserve to be top 10! Those are 3 top 10 teams in any of the rankings right now! As far as I'm concerned, they could lose all three of those games by a close margin and still be more deserving of a top 15-20 ranking than most of the teams in the 15+ range right now.

Gary, what happen to Memphis? They should be in the Top 25 at least #22 - 25. What's up with that?

I'm tired of everybody saying "UNC almost lost to ..." and "UNC only beat Nevada by 7 at home..." ... NEVADA is a average team, and and young team like the Heels were off for 6 days, it threw off their rythym a little bit, but the upper classman had their strong games.

(Thompson career high 23 points)

BUT, I do think we are overrated, we deserve to be around 16th or 17th .. and if we win 2-1 games out of this 3 game stretch were about to go on (MSU, UK and Texas) .. we still deserve to be in the Top 25.

Duke did have a solid victory against a top-15 opponent on a neutral court (and UCONN is one of the only teams who makes MSG actually neutral for Duke) and UNC had to fight out a close one at home against Nevada.

Gary,

You are putting a lot of your cred on the line by continuing to ride UK so highly. They have not been impressive in their games so far, and they haven't played a really good opponent -- unlike Florida, which has done both -- and is still undefeated, or Tennessee, who played Purdue well before losing by 1.

Maybe UK will rise to the level of competition...they better, because the competition is going to improve dramatically, starting the end of the coming week, with UNC on tap on 12/5. If UK is still undefeated at the end of the next two weeks, I'll have them rated in the top 5 too, until then they'll lurk just outside of my top 10 unless we have another wave of losses by top teams, and they stay undefeated. On the other hand, if their only win in the next two weeks is against UNC-Asheville, then they'll be toasted and kicked to the curb, in my Top 25

I'm only mentioning UK because they have been 'just good enough' in several games this year, already!

Other teams like KU haven't looked great when playing their one higher quality opponent - but they did play a solid team at a neutral site, and won. I would caution my Jayhawks too...their diet of cupcakes is going to make them grind their gears when their competition increases - finally - in mid-December.

A big thank you to all of those teams that were intrepid enough to take on real competition this week! Congratulations to those teams, like Nova, WVU, Duke, Florida, Syracuse, and Purdue -- who have all played and beaten at least one top 10 caliber team, on the road, or at a neutral site! Thanks for my viewing enjoyment!

I'm not a fan of basketball cupcakes. I believe a leaner diet will benefit teams much more...

One more kudo...to Butler for putting together such a tough out of conference schedule. They are getting nicked up, but they are showing they can compete with the big boys!

The next week brings us some inter-conference matchups: The Big Ten - ACC Challenge; and the Big 12 & PAC 10 Hardwood Series will throttle-up... For those keeping score... The Big 12 now leads the Hardwood Series 1-zip, with an unexpected victory by Nebraska over USC to get the ball rolling!

Check out my blog tomorrow for the Big 12 Elevators...and see where they are going and which buttons they're pushing or are missing!

The Big 12 - It's our turn to Rule!

And how does Louisville fall out of the rankings after losing to a team who you ranked as 26 but Kentucky is #2 after having two overtime wins against non-ranked opponents?
