Posted on: January 1, 2010 3:36 pm

Tennessee basketball players Tyler Smith, Cameron Tatum, Brian Williams and Melvin Goins were arrested Friday after a traffic stop. The players are facing drugs and weapons charges, according to the Knoxville News-Sentinel .

"We take these matters very seriously," Tennessee Bruce Pearl said via a released statement. "We are still gathering information. Once the appropriate authorities have provided us with all of the facts, we will act accordingly.”

Tennessee won 66-59 at Memphis on Thursday.

The Vols are 10-2 this season and ranked 14th nationally.

It sucks that kids with the honor of playing college ball get in so much trouble.
If they only new what they held in their hands with the opportunity they hold.

I hate to disagree but it is becoming indicative of Pearl.  The number of players recruited to Tennessee by Pearl, who are connected with drugs or refuse to attend class is growing.  Crews, Ramar, Tabb, and unfortunately it sounds like 4 more names.  Ugggh.  That's not a good percentage.

You can't deny Calipari doesn't warrant that kind of treatment, people get stereotyped for a reason.

Are you kidding me?

Gather your facts like you always say...then kick them suckers out of school. I don't get these kids, these schools give you an oppurtunity to make something of themselves and they turn around and throw it back in their face. Disgrace! Do you know how many unfortunate kids would love to go to college...for free? It really saddens me to see these young men turning to drugs and guns(thank God no violence this time).

The Vols have serious problems in their athletic department, anyone who denies that is totally delusional. They recruit some of the most questionable players I have ever seen, what a compliment to the university, how many more times are the Vol fans gonna come to their rescue? The NCAA should show up in Knoxville and turn that place inside out, ban everything for a year in sports and just clean house.

I really thought these guys, especially Tyler Smith, were above this behavior. I know that no program is 100% squeeky clean, but this has been ridiculous these last few months. This isn't indicative of Pearl as a coach or disciplinarian, but still disturbing.

I live in Knoxville and love the Vols but I am over the way our athletes act. This kills our basketball team. Our coaches must pay attention and care about the quality of the players they bring in. I like all four of these guys but enough is enough. I do not carry guns I make it. Please Kiffin and Pearl dont let our program continue to look foolish. All the wins in the world doesnt make up for such terrible behavior.

Hmmm, wonder if they were on drugs during the Memphis game?
