UNC's Davis likely done for season
North Carolina sophomore Ed Davis has a broken bone in his left wrist and will be sidelined at least six weeks, the school announced Friday morning. Considering six weeks from today is March 26, Davis is almost certainly done for the season.
“We’re all extremely disappointed for Ed and for our entire team,” said North Carolina coach Roy Williams. “It’s hard to lose any starter, but when you lose someone likely for the rest of the season who does so many different things for your team it’s a significant loss. He’s our second-leading scorer, top rebounder, shot blocker and field goal percentage shooter, so it’s a huge blow to our team. However, we have to band together and try to overcome this latest adversity caused by injury.”
Davis broke the lunate bone in his left wrist when he fell with 9:16 remaining in Wednesday's loss to Duke. Surgery is not planned at this time, according to North Carolina officials. It's unclear how this will affect Davis' future. He's long been a projected lottery pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, assuming he enters the 2010 NBA Draft.
Davis was averaging 13.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
North Carolina (13-11, 2-7 in the ACC) plays N.C. State on Saturday.

UNC's Davis likely done for seasonNot a good move for Davis to go pro if its true, esp. with this injury. You just never know with these guys, Roy was fortunate last year when Lawson and Hansborugh stuck around for another year, they very easily could have went pro after 2008. They came back for 2009 to win it all and thats exactly what they did.

UNC's Davis likely done for seasonYou never know, I thought we would be more successful than we were this year, like Roy says, you never know about freshmen until they hit the court, and his have been disappointing this year for sure, Dook will be strong next year, we will be better for sure, I hate Dook, but I like K, he's a good communicator and educator, and runs a clean program, unlike UK and Cal, I hate them the worst, Davis might be close to signing with an agent per message boards over at UNC, don't see how he good go pro, he is not ready in the least, he will get killed for the first 5 years over there, just crazy.

UNC's Davis likely done for seasonNot as much as years past, they have won quite a few games this season when they were not falling. The Key is Smith, Scheyer and Singler can create their own shots, and they dont have to settle for 3's. As long as they do that they will continue to win, Another Key is the development of Mason Plumlee he has shown some nice offensive work, he is young and needs some more playing time. I dont know if they can win it all this year or not but Duke and UNC both should be excellent next year. Duke will Lose Scheyer, Thomas and Zoubek. With Scheyer being the only real loss. They have a solid class coming in with Kyrie Irving the #2 PG in america coming, and they get transfer Seth Curry brother of Stephon Curry, He is a shooter just like his Brother. UNC also has a great class coming in. They will Lose Thompson and Ginyard, and their are questions as to whether Davis will come back, but saying he does UNC should be back next year. Looking forward to it. And maybe Duke can put a good run together and close that margin on National Championships back to 5-4 we shall see.

UNC's Davis likely done for seasonI dont know where they will end up they, but they are better than you give them credit for. As long as they get steady production from the big three they will be hard to beat. They play good defense, and if Brian Zoubek keeps playing like he has the last few games they have a real shot at making a deep run.

UNC's Davis likely done for seasonThey have a shot to win because they will be in the tourney how ever high or low that percentage is, is debatable. What is not debatable is the fact that UNC has zero chance because they wont make the tournament. As for Carolina hanging with Duke all game thats rivalry bro, remember the classic double OT game from 95 when Duke was bottom of the ACC, and Carolina was great with Stackhouse and Wallace. When Duke and UNC play records go out the window.

UNC's Davis likely done for seasonDook does not have a shot this year for the NC, ya kidding me? I mean UNC gave them all they wanted until the last 4 minutes (of course that's when upper classman gain on youngsters) UNC is pitiful and they hang with Dook all nite long, warning: there will be a game mid way through the tournament when the 3's aren't falling and Dook will be done, they are not a tough team, not physical and when the 3 doesn't drop they are average at best, period.

UNC's Davis likely done for seasonListen All I was doing was responding to a poster who said duke was overrated. and he also said win a national title then talk. So I just pointed out the fact that duke has 3 and they arent overrated they rank 4th in all time wins. I know the numbers on UNC so thats why Im not spouting ignorance like UNC is overrated they have built a great and successful program just like Duke has. But a lot of UNC fans out their cant accept that and give credit where credit is due. We mention the last 20-25 years because thats when Duke Basketball became top teir. Once Coach K took over and began to build the program. Carolina had tradition before Dean came with Frank Mcguire. Duke had some decent years with Bubas but pretty much everything of significance has be the past 20-25 years. Yes Duke might not win the title this year but at least they will have a shot at it unlike UNC this year. |
