A MRI will determine Purdue's Final Four odds

Forget the RPI.

At the moment, it's not important to Purdue.

The three letters that matter most now are MRI -- as in the MRI that's expected to be conducted on Robbie Hummel's right knee Thursday, as in the MRI that'll likely have more to do with whether the Boilermakers make the Final Four than the seed or draw the NCAA tournament selection committee deals them.

Yes, this is that big.

Hummel is not a National Player of the Year candidate, nor is he Purdue's leading scorer. But he's a crucial part to what the Boilermakers do, and everything changed when he crumbled to the floor with a knee injury in the first half of Wednesday's win at Minnesota. How bad is the injury? There's still no official word. But it's worth noting that nobody connected to Purdue is suggesting it might be OK. In other words, everybody is holding out hope, but nobody seems hopeful, and that's probably not a good sign. At least it's not usually a good sign.

Either way, this is awful.

Hummel was averaging 15.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, and he had Purdue in position to win the Big Ten, earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, and perhaps advance to the Final Four. All those things are still possible, of course. But the odds of any of them happening will decrease drastically if Hummel's MRI doesn't produce good results.

So again, forget the RPI.

The MRI is all that matters now.

I'm speaking the truth too, as much as it hurts to admit, Purdue, when healty can BEAT us on a neutral court.

This is what I meant to say

What happened to the people of Wisconsin? What a bunch of d-bags. You're probably one of the morons who boo'd Favre at Lambeau and burned his jersey on YouTube. To say Wiscy is better than Purdue (even without Hummel) is idiotic and just downright retarded to insinuate that they were better all season with him. If Wisconsin makes the final four, I'll burn my Vikings #4 jersey on YouTube. No way in hell that happens.

I hope when we make the final four, someone throws you off the bandwagon, we don't need fans like you. I hope we make the final four, I woud love nothing more than to see us in the final four, but are you seriously calling me a bandwagon fan? I have been a badger fan all of my life, and I will always bleed badger red. The reason we underachieve every year? It seems to me that the football and basketball programs exceeded expectations this year. Yep, I see why I caused us to underachieve. get real.

Could we end this discussion. Purdue is irrelevant the rest of the year, sometimes you have to bite the bullet and except the facts. When Butch went down a few years ago, I told everyone the year was over and it was. We had no chance in the tournament and were ousted 2nd round as a 2 seed against a 7 seed UNLV. We had beaten Michigan State in the finale and I told everyone it did not matter and that our year was over. I am telling you Purdue fans the same thing, and it may come off harsh, but its the truth. Whether or not you win the rest of your regular season games even against overrated Mich. St it will not matter. You guys will lose come March and in the first weekend. I have been there before, I feel your pain. Just do not try to argue that Purdue is better than Wisconsin, when we have played you guys twice, once with Leuer and without and have looked like a team that could make a deeper tourny run. Now without Hummell, we would beat you guys handily on a neutral floor. My opinion, deal with it. I can't believe another Badger fan is taking smack. You and other fans are the reason we underachieve every year. I hope when we make the final four, someone throws you off the bandwagon, we don't need fans like you.

I'm a diehard boiler fan and this is a devastating blow... It definately hurts our final 4 chances because it will be very difficult for purdue to contend with big teams.  Patrick Bade blows.  Look for seniors Kramer and Grant to continue to step up like they did last night as Kramer will likely be guarding opposing teams second big man and Grant will have to keep his momentum going on offense.

badgerforlife, please SHUT UP! You are a fan of a team that has 7 losses, granted over half of them have been without Leuer, and you are trying to talk smack to a team who has only three losses and is #3 in the country. give me a break. I am a die-hard badger fan, season ticket holder and a member of the grateful red, and PURDUE IS A BETTER TEAM THAN WISCONSIN. I'm perfectly alright with admitting that. Are you?

As an OSU fan, too bad about Hummel - I hope he return soon. He's a great player on a great team. It would be fun to see how well they would do in the Dance with a healthy team.

Did they achieve all that without Hummell who is now lost for the year? NO! Thats what I thought. Please don't comment unless you have a reason to do so numnuts. You guys are a team without Hummell for the rest of the way, that is now reality which means your peak is a sweet 16 appearance. All your accomplishments during the regular season which no one gives a hoot about is for naught. Now go bury yourself in the middle of buttfuck Indiana somewhere.
