The Poll Attacks

First things first: I knew Syracuse would be No. 1 in the AP and Coaches polls.

And guess what?

It's not stupid to have Syracuse No. 1.

It's a perfectly reasonable thing to do. I don't agree. But it's not irrational even though Kansas has just as many wins over fellow Top 25 teams and a better RPI, even though KU's two losses came on the road while Syracuse's came at home, even though Jerry Palm still has KU as the No. 1 overall seed. I could use most of that information -- and perhaps all of that information -- to try to convince you that it's stupid to rank Syracuse No. 1. But I'm not going to do that because that's never been the point. I don't think you're stupid if you think Syracuse should be No. 1; I think you're stupid if you think a good case can't also be made for Kansas.

But I'm over it.

I'm more worried about the coach voting Duke No. 1.

That guy is an idiot.

He's about to get Poll Attacked!

AP poll: If Syracuse fans think I'm stupid for having the Orange at No. 2, then I bet they think Tom Keegan is brain-dead. Keegan has the Orange third on his ballot behind Kansas and Kentucky. And did I mention Tom works for the newspaper in Lawrence, Kansas? Yep, the sports editor in Kansas ranked KU No. 1 and Syracuse No. 3. So please click this link and direct your hatred toward him, and forget about me. Thanks.

Coaches poll: It's OK to have Duke in the top four, projected as a No. 1 seed, whatever. All reasonable. But there is no way to reasonably put Duke ahead of both Kansas and Syracuse on a ballot like one coach did this week. Duke has a 25-4 record featuring a loss to North Carolina State. Meantime, Syracuse has a 27-2 record featuring no losses to non-NCAA tournament teams, and Kansas has a 27-2 record featuring no losses to non-NCAA tournament teams. So Syracuse and Kansas both have more wins than Duke, fewer losses than Duke, better wins than Duke, fewer questionable losses than Duke, and I could go on for days.

So who's the guilty coach?

No way of knowing.

Coaches ballots are private.

I can't see them.

But my guess is that the guy who voted Duke No. 1 is the same guy who voted Murray State No. 25 after a loss to Morehead State. Murray State is a great OVC team, but that doesn't translate to a Top 25 team, not when the Racers have four losses to unranked teams and just one win over a team ranked in the top 100 of the RPI.

The Poll Attacks

Here is the real reason SU fans jumped down your throat, Gary.
You wrote the article stating Kansas should be #1 BEFORE the SU/Villanova game, and the Purdue/Michigan State game.  That is just plain BAD journalism.  If you were to do that for a college newspaper, they would tell you to hold your opinion until the week had played out.  I know you wrote this assuming that the Cuse game would be close, like everyone else in the country assumed.  You weren't ready for them to dismantle Nova the way they did, which would have given your argument more validity.  However, you jumped the gun, mainly to cause controversy, and flaunted your opinion without even watching all of the weekend's games.
See, if a student writes a paper in college on The Grapes of Wrath, after having only read 1/3 of the book, they are unable to draw reasonable, sensible conclusions, and have to base a lot off of what they think happened in the rest of the book.  They turn in this crap-tastic paper and receive a crappy grade, and harsh feedback from the professor.  See, you're the student, the paper is your "article", and the Cuse fans are the professor telling you to shut the hell up.  Just in case you couldn't follow my analogy.  :)
Have fun writing more crap-tastic "articles" to rile people up.  I'll keep reading them.

The Poll Attacks

I agree SU deserves #1.

KU also beat Cal, but most KU fans don't call that a great win or point it out. Why? Because Cal plays in the Pac 10 which, this season, is equivalent to a high school circuit. Seriously that conference will be a one-bid conference.

Congrats to Cuse for their success this week. And I am loving it that Tom Keegan got called out in the Poll Attacks. If there was a college football writer that did poll attacks, he would have gotten reamed all season.

SU fans miss the point. Gary purposely makes these statements to stoke the fire. Cuse, KU and UK will all be #1 seeds, but when KU and UK both lose and SU wins decisively, what better way to draw traffic to your site? Stoke the flames by saying KU should stay ahead of SU.

Keep up the good work Gary.

You are dead wrong in your argument about Kansas retaining the #1 spot, and nearly every other voter agrees with me.  You list all of Kansas' accomplishments like they have been steamrolling great teams.

That just isnt the case.  Yes they have 4 wins vs. teams in the top 25.  Kansas has a great resume

BUT, in no way does that warrant voting for them #1 THIS WEEK

If you are comparing resumes, you are failing to look at the other side of the argument, which is why you are being destroyed by Syracuse fans.

You say Kansas' 2 loses came on the road....and Cuse's came at home.  Is that a selling point for Kansas?  I dont get it.  Syracuse is the only team in the COUNTRY that is undefeated on the ROAD.  The selection committe looks at how many games teams win on the ROAD, they dont look at which teams have the best home records.  So if anything this point contradicts your own argument.

You talk about beating "tournament teams"

Well Cuse also beat Cal a team with a top 10 RPI (by 20), and Florida in Florida (Neutral site ?)

Syracuse is also 7-0 against teams in the top 25.

Kansas' win at Kansas State was a very good win.

Cuse has won at WVU and G-TOWN twice, and beat NOVA ! At the times they played the games, thats 4-0 against teams in the TOP 10

That ends the argument....Kansas is a great team, and will be in the Final 4.

But you are losing focus, and comparing Kansas v Cuse's resume does not in any way favor Kansas.....NOT TO MENTION KANSAS GOT ABSOLUTELY SPANKED BY OK STATE.  Cuse trounced a top 10 team at home.  SU should be #1 in the polls, and I bet most Kansas fans even see that.

wait, how does this guy have an article?  SU rolled GT twice, so we have the same number of top 25 wins.  also, his reliance on RPI is bootie...look at who has more victories against teams in the top 50 of the RPI...that is right, SU.  lazy research, lazy writing, lazy logic.

The Poll Attacks

Anyone think it may have been Gary Williams giving Duke the number 1 vote. As a Duke fan, I cringed when I saw the (1) next to Duke today, because I know Duke belongs at either 4 or 5 (you can reasonably argue either). I see the two possibilities are Gary Williams giving respect to his own league (especially with a Duke game this week) or some voter with the extremely flawed logic of this week=previous ranking + whatever happened last week. Using that terrible logic, one could have had Duke a couple spots or less behind Syracuse and moved Duke in front when they lost to Louisville, and subsequently moved them ahead and KU and UK after this weekends loss. I hope Duke can earn that spot in a month, but they shouldn't have any votes toward it now.

Ok so i dont really care what you think because you have no idea what you are talking about.  There is no way that kansas could be number one, when they just lost to and unranked oklahoma state and syracuse dismantled villanova.  Oh and also, do you think that wake forest is gonna go to the final four this year?

The Poll Attacks

Whats even more of a joke? Two voters from Indiana still have Purdue at #4. Thats even more rediculous than the guy from Kansas having Cuse at #3. How can you possibly rationalize keeping Purdue at #4 ahead of teams like Duke and K State after what has transpired over this past week. These two voters should be stripped of their voting rights and publicly stoned, then forced to watch Purdue lose to the UConn womens team. What a joke! Please post a link so we can all ruin their lives as well.
