Oregon has scheduled a 6:30 p.m. ET press conference on campus, at which point athletic director Mike Belotti is expected to announce that Ernie Kent will longer be the school's basketball coach.

Bellotti and Kent will both attend the press conference.

Kent spent 13 seasons coaching Oregon.

He made five NCAA tournaments, two Elite Eights.

team2pass and this is breaking news to you?? What hallowed institution are you linked to?

It's not the Pac Ten that leads the conferences with the escalating salaries and expectations of coaches whether it is football or basketball.

Ernie was a great recruiter, but could not get it done on the hardwood and in game adjustments. Plus he was no saint either and had his mis-steps as you need to ask the UW student body section why they always would wear sombreros when the Ducks came to Seattle just a few years past. But Ernie was still backed by the UO department.

Good Luck Ernie as you did lift the program up, but the expectations are now higher with the resources available to the next head coach at the Oregon basketball helm.

Ernie Kent:  Come to DePaul - you had been poaching a lot of Chicago talent anyway

Kelly gets the pass because he handles the situations appropriately.  I am not sure where you get that he is making a mockery of things.  He has handed some of the more stringent punishments for the crimes.  And he has controlled his team pretty well.  So if coaching is not about wins, then what is it about?  Not sure I get that one.  You picked the wrong coach to use for a comparison.  And I would say keeping Kent for 13 years shows a lot of support, but eventually, his  W-L record was his undoing.

Oregon to formally announce Kent's firing

I will re-tract my Chip Kelly.  Maybe Belloti should fire himself from AD for the black eye of the football program.

Chip Kelly gets the pass, but Kent gets the pink slip.

Bottom line: It is all about wins and losses.

So what if you make a mockery of your program with players punching people, star players stealing, finding out recruits were expelled in high school for similar encounters.  Kelly gets the big bowl and big money.  Kent did not get into the NCAA and now out of a job.

And people want to stay College sports is about higher education.
