Oklahoma freshman Keith "Tiny" Gallon received a $3,000 wire transfer from a sports agent before the start of the season, according to a TMZ.com story filed early Thursday.

TMZ.com reported it has in its possession a document showing the transfer came from Jeffrey Hausinger (a Merril Lynch financial adviser who represents professional athletes) and was deposited into an account held by Gallon and his mother, Sylvia Wright. TMZ.com did not publish the document.

Gallon averaged 10.3 points and 7.9 rebounds this season. He was suspended for the Feb. 13 game against Oklahoma State for undisclosed reasons. CBSSports.com, at the time, asked OU coach Jeff Capel if the suspension was because of possible dealings with an agent. Capel said it was not.

An attempt to reach Capel early Thursday was unsuccessful.

Report: OU's Gallon took money from agent

First of all, everyone (including people's mother) know it's against NCAA rules to take money from anyone. If this kid or his mother didn't ask, that's just plain stupid.  The kid has got to know following sports (i.e. Reggie Bush, Chris Webber, O.J. Mayo) that taking money will get you in trouble.  To pretend you don't know -- as your excuse -- after ALL OF THESE cases, is to be flat out liar.  If this kid knew that what he was doing was above board, he would've come forward, but it wasn't above board, so he didn't come forward!  Also, the mother just taking the money and not asking any questions??? NO ONE gives you money without asking where and who it's coming from.  It's ridiculous!

Second, gopack, you are advocating that the boy purposely break NCAA rules. You ask, "What was the kid supposed to do".  Umm...how about how get a job, like the rest of us who went to school and were broke"???  Work on the weekends and do what I did: I busted my butt during the summer AND SAVED ALL OF MY MONEY for when I went back to college each semester until I graduated.  I had to put myself through college with my grades and a job.

I am so sick and tired of these kids, and their apologists making excuses for them for taking money. Every single damn person knows it's against NCAA rules. STOP! apologizing and making excuses for him and all of these other spoiled athletes!

Report: OU's Gallon took money from agent

"If this turns out to be true, its hard to blame the kid or his mother.  You are throwing a high school kid from a low income family into a college lifestyle where he essentially cannot get a job because of the long basketball season.  What else is he supposed to do for money?

Put yourself in that kid's shoes off at college and with no money and no job.  What do you do when all of your friends are going out and you can't because you are broke?  Don't be so quick to judge until you are in the same situation.
"

Foolish remarks from a Lexington fan again.

1) How would you know if this player is from a low income family?  He could've come from a middle-class family. You automatically assumed he was poor because a report said he $3,000 from an agent.

2) Student athletes can get jobs if they want.  They can go out and wait tables or work study or throw boxes for FedEx, UPS, or make sandwhiches if they really need the money.  Don't preach that the season is too long for a student-athlete to get a job while in college. Yes, basketball duties to fulfill their scholarship take up a lot of time.

3) Division I scholarships are often full-ride scholarships.  These scholarships pays for an tuittion, housing, books, food/meals, and often and materials etc.. for the student-athlete.  Each of these players recieve a monthly scholarship check for additional spending money for clothes and possiblly to even travel home somtimes.  The top Div. I student athletes (like Oklahoma) on full scholarship don't absolutely need an additional $3,000.  They don't even need car most of the time.

So tell us again why he accepted the $3,000? Yeah, if true, his actions were completely naive and unnecessary.

Should we blame him for taking the money, dropping his amature status, erasing his team's season, and potentially hammering the program with NCAA infractions?

HELL and YES!

Jeff Capel is a slimeball. There's no way he didn't know about this.

A horrible and underachieving season is getting uglier by the day. I'm beginning to think it'll be at least a few seasons before OU can emerge from this mess. Just a sad state of affairs for us Sooner fans.

Report: OU's Gallon took money from agent

It's great to come to a thread about a different team in a different conference and read more about UK. You just cant stop talking about us can you? I am flattered that you took the time to discuss our beloved program. By the way, Kansas vs UK would be a great matchup. Unfortunately, Kansas wont be able to handle our inside presence. The guard play will be evenly matched, but down low we have to much size, strength, length and power. I hope we get to play Kansas, it will be an instant classic.

It's funny how this article is about Oklahoma but everybody seems to turn it back towards Coach Cal and UK.

Haters.
