Siena coach Fran McCaffery has accepted an offer to be Iowa's coach, according to the Albany Times Union.

A formal announcement is expected Monday.

McCaffery spent five years at Siena and led the Saints to each of the past three NCAA tournaments. The 50-year-old Philadelphia native was also a candidate at St. John's and Seton Hall. He replaces Todd Lickliter, who was fired after three seasons.

Iowa finished 4-14 in the Big Ten this season.

Iowa is a much better job

... than St. Johns or Seton Hall.  Neither StJ nor SH has an attractive campus, neither has an on-campus arena, and both are getting pummeled in the Big East by programs that have more resources, much more success in the last 20 years, and top-tier coaches and players to boot.

St. Johns and Seton Hall are coach-killer jobs.

Siena's McCaffery headed to Iowa

I don't get it.  Wouldn't it make more sense to go to Seton Hall or St. John's, where the money is just as good but you have the same recruiting contacts from New York?  Why go halfway around the country in an area with a much smaller recruiting pool when you can become a bigger fish in the same pond?  Does anyone else think this sounds like a good fit?  Reminds me of Gregg Marshall leaving to coach Witchita State right before the South Carolina job came open.

Siena's McCaffery headed to Iowa

And so the beat goes on at Siena...another up and coming coach moves on to a bigger school. Consider it a good thing Siena fans, just goes to show you how good of a program youve got in Loudinville. you cant blame Fran and he would be crazy to pass up the opportunity to coach in the Big 10. Im just glad he didnt take the 1st job offered like alot of coaches have done. Again good luck Fran and thanks for the years!

Good luck

Thanks Fran for taking the job. Now Seton can get the Kevin Willard and Shaheen Holloway package.
 Great news for Pirate fans.
See everything works out.
