Boston College has scheduled an afternoon press conference to announce it has fired basketball coach Al  Skinner, the Boston Globe reported Tuesday morning on its web site.

Skinner spent 13 seasons at Boston College.

He made seven NCAA tournament appearances.

This development comes less than a week after Skinner interviewed for the vacancy at St. John's. BC officials have already asked for permission to speak with Richmond's Chris Mooney and Cornell's Steve Donahue, according to the Boston Globe. Harvard's Tommy Amaker and Northeastern's Billy Coen are other possibilities.

He's quitting because he's completely ashamed of the pussssssssssssssssssssssssssgfjslkf

jlshgflskdfjlasdfjaslyty Spazo football coach who gives up with 7 min left and punts from the other teams 40 losing by 20.   Shameful.  Oregon, Oklahoma, USC, would be throwing and getting as close as possible and not giving up like your Pusssssssssssssssssssssssjgflsgjsjg

lskjy coach.  Fire the loser before all of Boston College is as shameful as your adopted son Obamatheloser, and Holderfuk;ljl;kjk,

I'd argue that the St. John's job, what with it being in the NYC hotbed of bball talent, is much better than coaching BC. Hasn't looked that way since Jarvis the crook left town, but if the guy can recruit the city...

st. john's asked for permission to interview and was given the ok by the AD.  if they realllllllly wanted to keep him and if this firing wasnt in the works, do you think they would have granted them permission.  what happened with the football coach was different.  he was told not to interview and still did it....different story

BC won't lower their standards for athletes which frustrates the coaches.  Local talent leaves for schools with lower academic standards.  That is why Gary Williams left and why Skinner was looking to leave.  It's a shame that would cause a coach to leave.

What was Al thinking?  The BC job is, in my view atleast, a much more high profile than St. Johns.  St Johns was in 20 years ago, but they haven't done anything since.  Good riddance Al...beantown don't need ya!
