INDIANAPOLIS -- Da'Sean Butler's knee injury is worse than West Virginia initially believed.

A source close to the program confirmed to CBSSports.com that an MRI performed Sunday showed Butler has a torn ACL, sprained MCL and two bone bruises in his left knee. This means he'll require surgery and be unable to workout for franchises before June's NBA Draft. The CBSSports.com First Team All-American is projected by most as a second round pick, but this development could leave Butler undrafted.

Butler collapsed in the second half of Saturday night's loss to Duke. He yelled in pain while lying on the court, which led to Bob Huggins holding him and caressing his face in one of the more moving moments of this NCAA tournament. WVU officials said they believed it was only a sprained MCL after the game. But they learned it is much worse Sunday.

Butler averaged 17.2 points and 6.2 rebounds this season. He was the MVP of the Big East tournament.

Dandydon, I assume you are referring to me when you talk about "whining BE fans".  You could not be more wrong...I am an OSU, Big Ten fan.  I've thought the Big East was overrated all season long.  Go back and read my post...I said officiating did not matter, as Duke was the better team that night.  All the same, Butler ran into a guy who had established position no better than WVU guys did earlier in the game.  The result...3 fouls on WVU.  Or how about Singler climbing all over Mazulla's back to the point that Mazulla took a shot to the head from Singler's chin, yet no foul?  Duke ball.  Duke was allowed to reach in all night, WVU was not.  The officiating was biased...let's all just accept that and go on.  WVU was not going to win that game anyway.  Besides, my main point is that Duke has the tournament in the bag.  The Dookies have had favorable treatment from Selection Sunday on.  Butler fans beware:  the Bulldogs will have to beat Duke AND the Officials tonight.

Maybe if you knew a little about the relationship between the two..Bring your kids out of the room when someone is comforting someone in agony?  If you'd censor something like that from your kids I'd hate to see the outcome of that parenting experience.

If this is the way your mind works, maybe there shouldn't be ANY kids in the room with you...especially yours. But then again, how would you teach them to be totally ignorant, classless, and imature, just like your parents taught you !!!!

Typical PUKE fan response.....

Nice thing about the internet it allows people to say what they want, good or bad. To come to a article that is obviosly going to be pro-WVU and pro-BE and ask people to stop whining about the BE, says something about you not the people who came here to talk WVU/BE basketball. I do agree regarding your comments about De'Sean Butler - you should have stopped there.

I guess that you'd be the one looking for an "erection".....is this something taught to you by your dad or was it your mom?

Ignorant, low-life, no-life, unclassholes like you should have been aborted !!

I'm with a lot of you guys...  I thought Huggins was diplaying a brave degree of compassion and comfort for his fallen player and I was genuinely touched... at first.  But somewhere around the 20 second mark the whole huggy bear routine got creepy to me and I was positive the eskimo kisses would be followed by spit-swapping at any moment.  Butler was over 18 though, so I guess it would be OK...?  {eeesh}

First let me say I felt very sorry for DaSean Butler.  The kid seems to be an all around good guy and I'm sure no matter what happens now, he will find a way to be okay.  People of character always find a way to be successful.
Now to the whiners from the Big East.  OMG How can you even begin to cry about calling a foul on the bunch of thugs that play on the vast majority of teams in your conference.  When you let people attack each other and call it a "aggressive defense" what do you expect.  The rest of the basketball world has finally caught on to the key to winning in the NCAA tournament.  And that is to play street ball.  When you came crashing in the lane, without regard to someone having established positi
on, guess what, it's a foul...  I'm not really a Duke fan, but I am a ACC fan.  And to think that the idiots in the basketball world think the Big East is Best, get a grip.  Can't even compare to the ACC.  If Butler wins tonight, great.  They have never won and even though I'll be routing for Duke, if they win that's okay.  But PLEASEEEEEE quit whining.
