INDIANAPOLIS -- Da'Sean Butler's knee injury is worse than West Virginia initially believed.

A source close to the program confirmed to CBSSports.com that an MRI performed Sunday showed Butler has a torn ACL, sprained MCL and two bone bruises in his left knee. This means he'll require surgery and be unable to workout for franchises before June's NBA Draft. The CBSSports.com First Team All-American is projected by most as a second round pick, but this development could leave Butler undrafted.

Butler collapsed in the second half of Saturday night's loss to Duke. He yelled in pain while lying on the court, which led to Bob Huggins holding him and caressing his face in one of the more moving moments of this NCAA tournament. WVU officials said they believed it was only a sprained MCL after the game. But they learned it is much worse Sunday.

Butler averaged 17.2 points and 6.2 rebounds this season. He was the MVP of the Big East tournament.

TO ALL NBA TEAMS: If you're foolish enough to pass on the chance to draft Da'Sean Butler, you'll be making a mistake you'll regret.  This young man is a fantastic player with a will to win that is as strong as any player you could have.  He will work harder than anyone else and make you proud to have him.  And he's a wonderful person.  Any organization would be improved by having someone like Da'Sean Butler on the team.

Da'Sean, you have a place in the hearts of WVU fans that will last forever.  Stay strong, and get well soon.

I will say this for posters like SpergonWynn and bluedevil-99... you certainly make it easy to hate Duke.  You are sick, disgusting individuals and the world is a worse place for your presence in it.  I feel sorry for your children for having to live in such hell; I certainly hope they never suffer a devastating injury and lie there in agony while you sit in the stands and laugh at them.  I also feel sorry for your parents for knowing they unleashed such filth upon the earth; however, I believe in forgiveness, so I won't blame your parents for giving birth to you.

That was a pathetic attempt at humor and shows that you are a classless punk. Huggins and Butler obviously have a close relationship and if Butler is really a good kid like he seems to be then Huggins probably cares for him like a son. You wouldn't make fun of a father consoling a son like that would you? Shame on you, and all those idiots, for saying such terrible things.

This injury was direct result of the NCAA decision to call more charging fouls.  They have become way too liberal in the interpretation of a charge and thus encourage the defender to try to take one - even when not set and undercutting the driving player.  This is becoming very dangerous and injuries like these become inevitable.  Fans and the sports writers need to be more vocal against these incorrect charging calls - this is hurting the college game and jeopardizing the careers of these players.

Butler was like a son to Huggins.  You have to understand the bond between a coach and a senior leader.  Butler is one of the all-time great players at West Virginia, and this is one of the worst ways a college career could end for a young man.  Butler would have been drafted in the NBA.  You could see the look of defeat in his eyes as they carried him away.  Butler knew what happened.  Huggins knew what happened.  The team knew what happened.  They knew the consequences, and instead of caring about what people may think, Huggins went out there and took care of one of his players, as any decent person would do for their family.  This isn't just any old guy on the team.  Butler is a genuinely great kid with a bright future, and this had to be one of the biggest heartbreaks in Final Four history.

Undercut, injured, and called for the foul

on a flop.  Zanzabar or whatever his name is should have just Bill Goldberg speared Butler in the kneee during a timeout and he could have gotten away with it.  God forbid punishing Duke for their flops...it just encourages them more.

Good luck Butler Bulldogs, you'll need it.
