Bzdelik acknowledges Monday meeting with WFU

Colorado's Jeff Bzdelik acknowledged to his team that he will meet with Wake Forest officials Monday but denied multiple reports -- including one from CBSSports.com -- that he has already accepted the ACC vacancy, saying he hasn't even been offered the job.

Still, sources insisted Sunday that the Monday meeting is nothing more than a formality, and that a deal with Bzdelik was basically done Friday afternoon. Barring a major change of plans -- like athletics director Ron Wellman caving under pressure from fans who have publicly criticized the decision -- the sources said Bzdelik will be introduced as Dino Gaudio's replacement later this week, perhaps as early as Tuesday. Bzdelik claiming he hasn't even been offered the job is "semantics," a source told CBSSports.com.

Bzdelik is 36-58 in three seasons at Colorado.

Before that, he won 24 and 26 games in consecutive seasons at Air Force.

Before that, he was the head coach of the Denver Nuggets.

He was 73-119 in the NBA.

Hard to believe Wake Forest is looking at Big 12 bottom dwellers.  THis coach does not seem to have the staying power or recruiting ability needed to compete in the always tough ACC.  Where are all of the young coaches ready to step up?

Bzdelik is a solid X & O's coach, probably his strongest attribute. Not sure how well is he going to recruit on the east coast, but the talent pool will be deeper for him. He's a likeable guy.

Jeff's biggest problem is he has Larry Brown Disease; he's nomadic.

Soonermagic look on the bright side, at least it wasn't OU that ended up with Quin Snyder.

Coach k has given you the best that he has to offer. Since they learn little from the most overrated coach on this planet, it is not surprising that his pivileged few struggle.  Bob Bender's overall record was pretty bad, but he had a number of very good years at UW.

The one reason Ron Wellman said Dino was let go was because of his record in the postseason. He went 0 & 3 in the ACC Tourney and 1 & 2 in the NCAA Tourney. I kinda have problem with that because the man has only been in charge for 3 years. Look at Dean Smith's, Coach K's or any of Wake's coaches records in the entire history of the program and you won't see much more, if any, than what Dino did in the 1st 3 years.

Anyway, back to JB. What makes him the guru to lead Wake in the postseason? His NIT performance at Air Force? Or the 3 postseasons without an invite at Colorado. He may be a decent coach that hasn't gotten a chance in the right situation. But it seems to me there were other, more viable candidates out there with better track records. I have been a supporter of Ron Wellman (the AD) for his job at Wake, but I think he's helping his 57 year old buddy out here by pumpming him with some cash before he slides into retirement. And we'll be looking for a new coach in about 7-8 years.

Bzdelik is going to Wake

"Will meet with Wake Forest officials on Monday" = flying there Monday to finalize the deal so he can be introduced at a news conference on Tuesday.

Good luck, Bz.  You're better than the W-L record indicates, but at Wake you will have more pressure than you know.

I hope CU chooses wisely in replacing Bz and doesn't just give the job to a current assistant for the sole reason that current players want the job to go to someone they already know.  That's a poor reason to give someone a major-conference head coaching job on a permanent basis.

Yes Bostonred.  Coach K is overrated.  So overrated that his team beat 6 other teams in a row and won the national tournament this year.  I mean gee, how overrated can you get?  National championship, national shampionship.  Oh wow, I also totally agree with you that he is outcoached every game every year in the NCAA.  So that's why Coach K has the most wins in NCAA tournament history and one of the highest tournament winning percentages among active coaches.  Because he is always outgunned.  I mean, he only recruits nonathletic white kids right, so he really couldn't be winning on his players' talent alone, could he?

So every one of his four national titles, his gold medal with the olympic team, his conference tournament trophies, those are basically all products of someone who really can't coach his way out of a paper bag.

When your backside quits typing your posts for you, maybe I will read another one.  Until then, the rest of America will wait another 100 years as the Red Sox gradually fade from public conscience and go back to being an afterthought in professional sports.

Bzdelik acknowledges Monday meeting with WFU

Oh, maybe I should relate to the actual article...

not sure what Bzdelik's actual credentials are. Why does anyone think he's going to be a worthy coach? He coaches one hour away from UNC and Dook(and State, I guess). The only way Prosser survived there is because he was awesome at recruiting in-state and could take the top local talent(and develop them) from UNC/Dook, who recruit nationwide. What is this guy going to offer them? If coaching in the Big-12 was hard for him, good luck in North Carolina.

I hate Dook more than about anything in life, but saying Coach K is an overrated coach is absurd. Dook had 0 championships pre-Coach K, 4 with him. How many other coaches have 4? I can't wait for the day Coach K retires and leaves them scrambling to find a guy who can re-create, or even approach, his success.

Based on your post, why would anyone else want him?
