Report: Oregon meets with Missouri's Anderson

Posted on: April 16, 2010 11:37 am

Missouri's Mike Anderson met with an Oregon official Thursday night in El Paso, Texas to discuss the Ducks' coaching vacancy, The Oregonian newspaper is reporting.

A source told CBSSports.com that "someone speaking on behalf of Oregon" first approached Anderson in an informal way during Final Four weekend, but that nothing developed and he never heard back from anybody until earlier this week. Now Anderson has met with former Oregon athletic director Pat Kilkenny -- the man heading the search because Oregon doesn't currently have an AD -- in person. But it's unclear whether Anderson would accept an offer considering he rejected offers of more than $2 million per year last year from both Memphis and Georgia.

Anderson reportedly makes $1.55 million per year.

He has a team that should be ranked in the preseason Top 25 thanks to the return of Kim English and a recruiting class MaxPreps.com ranks 10th nationally. Anderson has been at Missouri four seasons. He's made the NCAA tournament each of the past two seasons.

His degree in "Criminality and Probation" will serve him well if he accepts the position of Head Coach and Probation Board Committee Chairperson.  The Oregon Felons, er' Ducks could use a very stiff neck and a Leader that qualifies for a Concealed Carry Permit.
I doubt if the bean-bag gun and taser will phase these "students".  Even the cheerleaders are DUI convicts.

Report: Oregon meets with Missouri's Anderson

How has Oregon not found anyone yet?

So far Oregon only seems to have been interested in millionaire coaches who are feeling loved in their current positions and are under long term contracts.

Billy Gillispie is available.  He's a millionaire, he's a good recruiter, and he's not under contract.

Report: Oregon meets with Missouri's Anderson

soren petro has reported as well as ESPN that Coach A has turned down the ducks. If Petro says its true I believe it. With the recruiting class he has coming in and the situation in Eugene, I can't blame him for snubbing the money. Mizzou will be tough next year with some solid returners and a great crop of incomers. This is as excited as I have been since the Arther Johnson, Paulding, Trevon Bryant class...excuse the spelling. Should be an exciting year in the Big XII. PS I already hate Selby...

It's over, Mike's staying.  Sorry Ducks, but you'll have to raid someone else.

How has Oregon not found anyone yet?  I would have guessed that they would have gotten a mid-major guy willing to have all the nike products he can handle by now.

Report: Oregon meets with Missouri's Anderson

Missouri needs to pay Anderson and then we don't have to go through this every year! We already paid Anderson last year and we're still going through this every year.  If Arkansas comes calling next year, do we have to pay him again?  I like Mike Anderson and I want him to stay, but at some point Mizzou is going to have to say "Enough".  I think that's what they were doing by giving Oregon permission to talk to him.  I think it was a message to Anderson that if this becomes a habit, Mizzou is willing to let him walk.  Anderson has instilled a team-first attitude with the Tigers and that should extend to him as well.

Report: Oregon meets with Missouri's Anderson

I am thinking we may have an opening at the end of next season for Mr. Anderson.   We should have hired him from the start and skipped the whole Stan and John fiasco's.     Good comment I was looking for someone to say something about him and the Arkansas connection.

Oregon also talked with the Queen of England, Frank Sinatra and Barack Obama about their coaching vacancy. Laughing
I mean really, these guys have supposedly talked to almost a dozen coaches.  They'll end up with nothing, and Oregon will go back to not mattering in college basketball.

Report: Oregon meets with Missouri's Anderson

This makes no sense for Anderson at all.  He does not impress me as a guy who would jump only for money.  He has the only major program in Missouri with St. Louis on one side and Kansas City on the other to recruit from.  He has a great recruiting class coming into a program that I feel outperformed expectations last year.  The PAC 10 is down while Big 12 is up although that can change quickly.  It is interesting that he decided to talk with them though.  I'm guessing my Mizzou friends are not losing sleep over this.

Report: Oregon meets with Missouri's Anderson

In my opinion , Coach Anderson will not leave Missouri . Why should he leave Missouri with the players he has returning and with his new recruits coming in? Also, Missouri will be one of the top team in the Big 12 next season. Beside everyone know that when Coach Andereson leave Missouri it will be to become the coach at Arkansas and when this happens Arkansas will paid him the big bucks to get Coach Anderson.
