Jones picks UW, talks to Calipari, then wavers

Terrence Jones announced at a Friday press conference that he will attend Washington.

But he didn't sign his letter of intent.

And now he's wavering.

And, of course, Kentucky's John Calipari is at the middle of the controversy.

"This is uncharted territory," Tweeted Scout.com recruiting analyst Dave Telep. "T-Jones basically had a wedding, consulted a divorce lawyer and began dating again all in the same day."

Unreal.

The gist of the story is that Jones, a McDonald's All-American from Portland, picked Washington over Kentucky, Kansas, Oregon, UCLA and Oklahoma early Friday while more than 25,000 watched live on the Oregonian's web site. Then, according to Percy Allen of the Seattle Times, Jones ended up on the phone with Calipari for about 15 minutes. It's unclear who called whom. But Allen wrote that the 6-foot-9 forward "seemed pained" after the conversation, and either way, it's true that Jones never actually signed with Washington despite announcing he would sign with Washington.

Jones is now reportedly considering Kentucky again.

There's no timetable for a resolution.

I'm not really sure the haters here aren't getting ahead of themselves.  Highly unlikely a) UK called after he commited to UW and b) perhaps he opted, underpressure to stay home (Oregon) and thought better of it and called Coach Cal to see if there was still an interest.

Listen, for all of you crying foul, UK has a team that is being assembled good without T. Jones, better with him, but not live or die addition/substraction - you can only play 5 and UK isn't "stealing" someone else's player.  My guess is the first scenario unfolded.  He felt pressured to stay at home, but then rethought what his heart wanted to do.  Play at UK.

Punk decision by a punk kid.  Read Parrish's knucklehead story and insert Jones names.

By the way, Calipari is a punk too.  Its a shame he gets away with what he does.  He's a good coach but a bad apple.  One day it will all catch up with him.   Both he an Kentucky will pay for their sins and I will love every minute of it.

The Cal bashers are idiots? We're talking about the biggest piece of crap in sports today and has been for quite a while. This guy put the last two teams he's been at in college on probation and left the mess for the next guy. Before he was a HC years ago he was an assistant at Pitt. There was a kid who was committed to St. John's and Cal stepped in and told him, "Psst I don't really want to say anything but Carnesseca has cancer and will be gone in a year or two at the most." The kid walked away from the Red Men and legend of Coach Cal had begun. Biggest scum bag in sports and UK fans will be thinking the same before long. He's an embarrassment to his profession.

Jones picks UW, talks to Calipari, then wavers

There has been some embarrassingly idiotic posts on this thread by fans of various schools (mostly KU and UK) but the funniest and most ridiculous was by someone named "mr" something, he said that Bill Self tried to get Daniel Orton after he committed to UK.  The truth is KU eliminated Orton not the other way around and the cool part is I'm not stating my opinion, this came from the mouth of Daniel Orton.

Speaking in terms of fact there is nothing to prove that Cal has done anything wrong here.  It does seem possible that he could have eased the kid's guilt some but who knwos for sure what the exact dialogue of that phone conversation was?  Self texted him a congratulatory-good luck message and that is that.

I realize I am shouting at the wind here, and that nothing I could possibly say would change anyone's opinion of the situation, but let's try for the sake of sharpining our debating skills:

1)  This really isn't a story until something actually happens; ie. the kids leaves UW and goes to UK.

2)  No one knows who called who.

3)  Coach Cal was the head coach of two programs that had wins vacated, but was never implicated in the violations.  To use the logic that because his programs got sanctioned, that he is a cheater, is the same as saying that if your child commits a crime you are equally responsible becaue they are from your house; or that if an employee of a large company commits a crime that the CEO is equally to blame because he is in charge of the company as a whole.

4)  No doubt that Coach Cal lives in the 'grey area' of the NCAA rule book, but so does every other major college coach; Cal is just dumb enough not to hide it.  He is so confident that he can not be convicted that he doesn't even try to hide.  Imagine the Godfather and you will see what I mean.

5)  Side note to think about:  Say this kid doesn't go to UW, and passes on UK as well, and ends up at Kansas????  Would the masses then turn their pointed tounges and acusations to Bill Self??????  Just asking.......

KU calling out UK on being dirty...hilarious

KU fan calling out UK fan for being dirty is terribly funny....everyone knows on the sleaze spectrum Calipari reigns atop but Self is undoubtedly nipping at his heels for that top honor.

Pot...Kettle...Black.

Only difference is Calipari has a history of being sloppy about it and no doubt will get caught again...Self remains clear from allegations which may not last but so far his reputation is intact.

How Much did Calipari offer?

Hey Parrish, any idea how much Calipari offered Jones? I wonder what amount of money swayed Jones' decision, must have been a sweet deal.

Anyone with any unbiased knowledge of Kentucky knows Calipari is and always has been a sleaze. Funny thing is, he has been caught TWICE and Kentucky fan still wants to try and prove he is clean. Sorry blue nation, we have history to prove our case, and all you have is blind loyalty.

I would not be surprised if Parrish were on the take as well. As soon as Kentucky makes any move, this clown jumps on it and covers it over other more worthwhile stories.

Parrish, time for disclosure, how much money you get?
