Former McDonald's All-Americans David and Travis Wear are transferring from North Carolina and hoping to get their releases "as early as Thursday," the players' father, Dave Wear, told Frank Burlison of the Long Bech Press-Telegram.

"When they return home (to Huntington Beach, Calif.), we will sit down as a family and review their basketball and academic options," said Dave Wear. "... They decided they didn't want to return to North Carolina."

David Wear averaged 10.5 minutes per game this season while Travis Wear averaged 10.3.

The departures leave UNC with just two experienced players who are taller than 6-feet-4 (Tyler Zeller and Jon Henson) on next season's roster. The Tar Heels' three-player recruiting class does not include any power forwards or centers.

Los Angeles Times says UCLA most likely school!!!

Ben Howland has two open slots for that year, and you can bet he is holding them open now.   This would be HUGE.

I don't think Kentucky would take the Wear brothers, because they will have too many good players in the 2011 class unless some of the players in 2010 go pro.  However, I would like to have the Wear brothers at UK.  I think they showed great potential this year in their limited playing time.  I believe they will improve over their career at whatever school they go to.

Bobby Knight is a jackass. Pure and simple. He loathes Kentucky and has never gotten over the loss to Joe B Hall's squad in the mid 70's NCAA Tourney. Plus he is a crappy announcer. A public nuisance that beats up his players, berates his secretary, and is banned from at least one country. He is a disgrace to all that is decent in this fine nation, he is a bully, and he is an ass.

Wear twins reportedly transferring from UNC

I was reading this thread and had to correct some of the illogical arguments being made.

The only two players that avg. double digits throughout the season last year was Ed Davis  and Deon Thompson.  Deon has graduated and Ed has not yet pulled his name out of the draft, he has tomorrow to do so.  I doubt he will because a) he would have said something by now b) I don't think he wants to go another year and watch his draft status plumet c) The NBA might have a lockout year next year and he might not even get the chance to go in the draft

Now that we got that non-sense out of the way.  The wear twins will be extremely hurtful by transferring.  Why?  They only combined for 6.2 pts last year.  Well thats the point dummy, IT WAS LAST YEAR!  The twins were expected to contribute much more this year as minutes, fouls, and production.  Players progress you know as they become seniors in college.  You know you get better as the years goes on or at least that is the idea.  Also look at the minutes they played, its hard to score 14 pts when you're averaging 5 mins a game.  They mostly got on the court when Zeller got hurt, now isn't that telling.  So now if Zeller gets hurt again, Henson's thin behind will most to the 5 and graves to the 4.  Are you serious?  Graves going up against 6-9 players?  Can we say dominated in the post?  Well you can argue, graves can pull the guys out on offense and clear the lane.  You still need a banger.  And there are several players in the ACC that can go outside that are 6-8 and still guard graves.

Are they 1st team all-americans?  No.  But they are decent big men that UNC was counting on to contribute this year and make it back to the tourney.  Remember this was a team that went 16-16 last year and you take away experienced players and their leading scores AND take away their youthful depth and that will spell trouble.  I understand the freshmen coming in are good, look around Duke and NC State has talented freshmen coming in too.  So that will offset.  What is going to matter is what your upper classmen can do that will help you get back to the tourney.  Its rare for freshmen to come to an ACC team and not only contribute but carry the team.  Roy has never had that happen for him.  With the wear twins I'd though UNC would finish 3rd in the ACC and make it in the Tourney.  Without the wear twins they'll most like end up 5th-7th in the ACC and could still make the tourney depending on if Zeller stays healthy all year, I won't hold my breathe, they don't get in foul trouble a lot during games, I will hold my breathe - UNC is consistently is called for the least amount of fouls in the ACC   They will still need larry drew and dexter strickland to produce very well, which I won't hold my breathe  for.  And they will need the freshmen to somehow learn Roy's system and implement it like Juniors and be better than the Soph, Juniors, and Seniors on the other ACC teams.  This won't be too hard since this will be another weak year in the ACC, weaker than last year.  UNC will be lucky to win 20 games this year.

Not sure there is any mutual interest, but if they wanted to get back to the Pac10, I would think they would fit nice in Herb Sendek's Princeton scheme.  They could play at the same time and be close to home, playing for a top notch coach with an offense that fits their skills.

Pretty funny--I thought the "upgrade" term was a bit silly too, besides aren't Kentucky and North Carolina in the same state?

Carolina lost two double-digit scorers? That's news to me. And should be to everyone, considering the Wears combined to average about 6 points per game last year.
