Report: Pac-10 targeting six Big 12 schools

Posted on: June 3, 2010 3:51 pm

The Pac-10 is prepared to offer six Big 12 schools -- Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado -- invitations to join its league, Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com reported Thursday afternoon.

OrangeBloods.com is a site devoted to covering Texas athletics.

According to the report, the Pac-10 would place the six Big 12 schools in a division with Arizona and Arizona State, leaving UCLA, Southern California, Stanford, California, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State to form the other division. The report states that the Pac-10 -- possibly under a new name -- would then create its own television network that could lead to annual payouts of around $20 million to each of the 16 members.

What's unclear is whether the Big 12 schools would accept a presumed offer.

Report: Pac-10 targeting six Big 12 schools

Why wouldn't Texas want a chunk of SoCal money? The TV deal alone would be huge. I'm not for this personally, but the BCS schools are a business conglomerate who just happen to have buildings for other students to go to classes as a side asset. That's another 10 to 20 million more people potentially watching the Texas schools on any given Saturday. Recruiting would be boosted. This is not a dumb move by the Pac-10 and may be a fiscally sound move for those Big 12 schools (especially if Nebraska and Oklahoma join the Big 10, which significantly guts the conference).  The Mountain West and WAC need to move as well if they want to be competitive in the superconference world. I'm just waiting for the announcement that the BCS is done with the NCAA and will officially a professional sports conference...(again, not for it...just stating reality).

Report: Pac-10 targeting six Big 12 schools

If Nebraska and Missouri go to the Big Ten, what's left looks almost as weak as the old Big 8.  Something was bound to happen with Texas, Oklahoma, and A&M; but does it really make sense for the Pac 10 to spread itself across three time zones?

I don't know enough about why the Big 12 is poised to break apart in the first place.  But if they can't pluck Arkansas and LSU away from the SEC, maybe the Longhorns and Sooners could join the SEC, and let the rest scatter among the lesser mountain and western conferences.

All I know for sure is that something will be missing in football if the Huskers and Sooners split up like this.

This is just more nonsense, just like the supposed Big 10 expansion being on the verge of happening. None of this is going to happen for a few years. The rampant, completely unfounded speculation of all this expansion nonsense is getting old. Let us know when something is actually happening, and not just rumored to happen because Joe Smith said so on his blog. Give me a break. Up until now, I've been naysaying all of the expansion theories. This one actually makes sense.
Whether it will happen or not, we'll have to wait and see.

Texans fought and won their independence from Mexico and for those of us that are native Texans we are proud of it. NCAA football is thankful for Texans, because they've enriched a lot of  programs in college football.

Kansas is now a dirty team

Which Kansas team? The baseball team? Basketball? Football? Softball? Track and Field? Last time I checked no team is involved with the "scandal". It's 6 former employees of the University and an AD who has a claim of being blackmailed. Get your facts straight.

Kansas (basketball) would be a better choice than Texas Tech, which doesn't bring anything great to the new conference. Somebody should teach BaseFan56 how to write a complete sentence.

Kansas is now a dirty team with all the scandals that have hit them lately.
