Report: Pac-10 targeting six Big 12 schools

Posted on: June 3, 2010 3:51 pm

The Pac-10 is prepared to offer six Big 12 schools -- Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado -- invitations to join its league, Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com reported Thursday afternoon.

OrangeBloods.com is a site devoted to covering Texas athletics.

According to the report, the Pac-10 would place the six Big 12 schools in a division with Arizona and Arizona State, leaving UCLA, Southern California, Stanford, California, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State to form the other division. The report states that the Pac-10 -- possibly under a new name -- would then create its own television network that could lead to annual payouts of around $20 million to each of the 16 members.

What's unclear is whether the Big 12 schools would accept a presumed offer.

Okay, well that's just great! I'll you what should happen. Every BCS conference just needs to get it out their systems and increase their numbers to 16. 6 BCS conferences, 96 teams. There will never be round robins again and announcers and anyone else will just have to get over it.

Wow you are really stupid and sad for such a horrible attempt at humor.  Get over the fact that the sonics now play in OKC because they are not coming back.  Your state sucks, your schools suck and all professional sports in Washington suck as well.  Nothing will ever change in that sorry state as long as stupid windbags like you live there.  You are a very sad person and I wish I had not replied to your ignorant statement and I will not waste anymore of my life by reading what is sure to be some homophobic reply.  Why did I say that?  Because I know that is the best your small mind can come up with!

Get your facts right...

Before you bash on other schools you might want to check the facts about the academics of specific universities.  Besides Cal, Stanford, UCLA, and USC... the two Washington schools are leading universities in their fields.  The UofW has one of the best medical schools on the West Coast and a highly respected business program.  Washington State is one of the best, if not the best, research universities in regards to Agriculture in the country...not to mention the highly regarded and, most likely the best, Veterinarian Colleges on the west coast.

Better academics??  Cal is the number 1 public school, UCLA is not far behind, and with Washington in the top 15 already makes it great enough.  Once the privates of Stanford and USC are added, 5 of the top 35 schools in the country are in one conference.

Better academics in the Big Ten?  Cal, Stanford, USC, UCLA, UW......I would say they are pretty much on par with each othere as far as academics are concerned.  I would say the Pac10 offers a better style of football and closer to what those teams are playing now.  They aren't the 3 yards and a cloud of dust teams like they used to be and like the Big Ten still has a lot of so I don't know if they would want to go do a league that deploys that boring style of football that is a complete mismatch for the high octane offenses they deploy now.

Better academics? Please. Stanford, Cal, UCLA, and USC are all highly respected academic universities with world known reputations that outweigh the Big Ten's two with similar academic reputations (Northwestern & Michigan).

After that, everyone else from both colleges are just a bunch of second tier or regional universities, all equally mediocre, pretending to matter... but if you got low standards, then knock yourself out and send your kids to Purdue and slap one of those Boilermaker Parent on your bumper sticker to make yourself feel better.

You mean aside from being the second most populous state in the Big XII with two top-50 media markets?  I think that's kind of important if the Big XII is looking for a new media deal.

NorthwesternWow, really?  Northwestern when trying to take a SHOT at Big-10 academics.  That's like saying the Pac-10 sucks BECAUSE of Stanford.
