Report: Nebraska expected to join Big Ten

An executive at a Big 12 school told the Omaha World-Herald that he expects Nebraska to become a member of the Big Ten as early as Friday, the paper reported late Tuesday night. If true, it's a development that could trigger Texas and five other Big 12 schools to move to the Pac-10, at which point the Big 12 would cease to exist.

"I think before too long -- I don't know exactly what the time frame is -- we'll be able to put this to bed," Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne said Tuesday night on the Husker Sports Network, according to the World-Herald. "There's a lot of information we really don't have right now. Hopefully we'll get these put together in the next few days."

Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman is expected to discuss realignment with the Board of Regents Friday.

Report: Nebraska expected to join Big Ten

Yes it would be great for basketball, unfortunately for KU (and KState & Iowa State) basketball is not much of a factor in the re-alignment that is on the horizon...its all about TV $$ and football, and the Sunflower State just doesn't have enough people to watch TV for the Big Ten Network to make $$ from taking KU (and KState, which they would have to do to keep that rivalry intact).

Blame the Big 12 for this one. How they couldn't have Nebraska/Oklahoma play every year wa a complete joke. It was one of the top 5 rivalries in the nation and they pissed it away.

Report: Nebraska expected to join Big Ten

To you Big-11 honks who are warning Nebraska to fear your overrated league, save your breath. How has Ohio State fared in its last 2 big games, and I'm not talkin' about Michigan or Oregon. Which team is closer to returning to national prominence in football, Nebraska or Michigan? Nebraska coming to your league is a shot in the arm to a conference that is stagnant. Fear the likes of Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern? Laughable. Bring it on! I think the Huskers will fit in nicely.

Report: Nebraska expected to join Big Ten

The funny thing is that outside of the Big Ten area there's not much exciting about the big ten.  They play a boring brand of football and basketball.

Report: Nebraska expected to join Big Ten

I don't understand why Kansas is being shunned by both the Big Ten and Pac 10?  Makes sense for them to join the Big Ten if the Big 12 was to implode.  I also don't understand their allegiance with KSU on any movement, as stated by their chancellor in an interview yesterday.  Adding KU to the Big Ten brings an AAU school with a huge fan base and a huge rivalry with Missouri.  It would also balance out Nebraska's below-average bball and I'd love to see Bill Self coaching in the Big Ten again.  KU is also building a new football stadium, which adds merit as well.

I could also see the Big Ten screwing the Pac 10 over somehow.  I can't imagine Texas being in the Big Ten, but Delany lives to screw people over and take all the glory, we'll see I guess.

Report: Nebraska expected to join Big Ten

I would think that with twelve teams, the Big Ten would have East/West divisions with six teams in each division.  This seems like a fair split and sets up good for a football conference playoff.  The West would consist of Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Northwestern. The East would be Indiana, Purdue, Michigan St, Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn St.
