Report: Nebraska expected to join Big Ten

An executive at a Big 12 school told the Omaha World-Herald that he expects Nebraska to become a member of the Big Ten as early as Friday, the paper reported late Tuesday night. If true, it's a development that could trigger Texas and five other Big 12 schools to move to the Pac-10, at which point the Big 12 would cease to exist.

"I think before too long -- I don't know exactly what the time frame is -- we'll be able to put this to bed," Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne said Tuesday night on the Husker Sports Network, according to the World-Herald. "There's a lot of information we really don't have right now. Hopefully we'll get these put together in the next few days."

Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman is expected to discuss realignment with the Board of Regents Friday.

Report: Nebraska expected to join Big Ten

Although you are probably not a football player, if you were you would probably be OK with moving to the Big Ten given that they have their own TV network and arguably more coverage for you if you were playing. That being said it is much more likely that you would only be going to NU as a normal student, which then your comment makes even less sense as the Big Ten is stronger academically than the Big 12 and thus the move would present more opportunities and prestige if NU were to join that conference. Perhaps some though should be given before posting pointless remarks that make you look rather foolish

@ Korn

I like Nebraska. I really do. No problems with them.

When the Big 12 was formed, the agreement was more advantageous for NEBRASKA than it was for TEXAS. At the time, Nebraska dominated the TV revenue and Texas was gasping for breath (in terms of success, not money).

It's not anyone else's fault that Nebraska fell to the bottom, and thus lost their advantage with TV revenue. Texas is the most successful team, so based on the current agreement, they earn the most money.

I see no fault in Nebraska wanting to go to the Big Ten for more money.

Ya know, it gets pretty tiresome hearing all you posters bad-mouthing Nebraska.......this is all coming about because of the greed and arrogance of Texas........Tom Osborne has kept his mouth shut to the media for years, while Texas continues to take and take and take.  Why in the hell wouldn't Nebraska jump at the chance to get out of the Texas 12?  And continue to bow down to every single wish and want that the Longhorns can come up with?  This conference was built to benefit the state of Texas.......who in their right mind let's Oklahoma/Nebraska rivalry disappear into nothing???  Guess who!!!  Anyone who thinks this mess was created by Nebraska is either CLUELESS or is blinded from looking at too much burnt orange.

I predicted this years ago and I'm tickled that Coach Osborne has the guts to finally tell Texas to stick it where the sun don't shine burnt orange!!!   We'll probably struggle some in Big 10 at first, but beats the hell outta the alternative of being stuck in a pile of Longhorn dung until the end of time!!!

GoBigRed!!!

I concur with EVERYTHING that HGHAWK said, and my two cent's addition is that it all started downhill when the powers-on-high at NU picked up that lame excuse for a coach in Bill Callahan who tried to CHANGE the scope of NU football by pressing for that obviously obnoxious West Coast offense that literally felled the offense in its tracks.  Taking NOTHING away from the beloved Blackshirts, a defense is only one facet of the game; you can stop the opposition all you want, but you need POINTS to win a game...and to have one side of the field do both the stopping AND the scoring, well, then why have an offense???  It takes both...ANYHOW, best of luck to the soul of NU football; it's in the hands of the devil now (MONEY); they screwed the athletes of NU programs with this move; and now recruiting will be getting the scraps of the Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State tables...yeah, you did us long-time Husker fans REAL proud with this MONEY-based move...

Right on!!!   Texas 12 let NU/OU rivalry fade away into meaningless.........Texas is only concerned with bettering Texas and filling up their own pockets.....Texas just kept taking and taking and taking.......last straw was politicing to get football title game in Texas each and every year....wonder how long before Texas tries to force the Pac 10 to move THEIR headquarters to the Holy Land of Texas???...had they not been so arrogant and greedy, this day wouldn't have ever come!!!

Tom Osborne was classy and kept his mouth shut to the media for years when all know he was tired of UT's arrogance.........and Texas just kept taking more and more..........lots of people on this message board are blaming Nebraska for this mess.........they're either CLUELESS or blind Texas fans.........Horns are the one that should be the target of finger pointing!!!

Screw the Horns!!!   Horns down baby!!!  Right in the Lumber Yard, Danny!!!

GOBIGRED!!!
