Colorado will announce Friday that it is leaving the Big 12 to join the Pac-10, a Big 12 source confirmed to CBSSports.com on Thursday. The Boulder Daily-Camera is reporting that Pac-10 officials will be on the Colorado campus for a formal press conference.

This is the latest development that could lead to the demise of the Big 12 considering Nebraska is expected to also announce Friday that it's leaving the league. Multiple media outlets are reporting that Nebraska will join the Big Ten, which is expected to trigger an additional exodus of Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to another league, most likely the Pac-10. It's worth noting that officials from Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Baylor are meeting Thursday in Austin to discuss their futures, according to OrangeBloods.com.

If Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State follow Colorado to the Pac-10, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Baylor and Iowa State would be left looking for a new league. They could all go their separate ways into existing leagues, stick together and join an existing league, or stick together and try to lure schools from other conferences -- like the Mountain West and C-USA -- to help start a new league.

Arkansas would never leave the SEC, they'd have to get another mid-major

I wonder if the USC sanctions will make Texas think twice about joining the Pac 10. Without a dominant USC the conference looks a lot weaker. Right now the Big Ten or SEC is the place to be. If the Big 10 can add Notre Dame, Nebraska, Texas, Okhlahoma, and one other team that would be a hell of a conference.

If UT and OU join then yea a heck of a confernce. If not, then it pretty much is tomorrow what it is today a very respectable conference but not the place to be

so dumb....basketball dictates NOTHING.. its all about revenue and FOOTBALL is king.  Arkansas is leaving the SEC where they make 10 million more per year than the BIg 12 teams do now....

Do they think they will do any better in the PAC 10?

You're a douche.  Might take awhile, but Colorado is going to become really good in this new Pac 16, primarily because the Buffs can now focus on the prime recruiting grounds on the West Coast, and it will be easier to keep good in-state talent.  Plus, the Buffs have always matched up better against the west coast offense, so of course they will have a chance to do better.  Also, at the end of the day I'd rather watch my team in LA, the San Francisco-Bay Area, Seattle, etc. than in Lincoln, Ames, and Waco.

Enjoy the Big 10 and your fields of corn though...

I'm not that surprised CU made the first move. As soon as the Baylor rumors started flying around I felt that Colorado would move quickly before the Texas legislature had time to gt things moving on a Texas, A&M, Tech and Baylor package deal.

So much for the CU-NU game after Thanksgiving for years to come.  Who cares.  Big 12 is done., I guess it is time to start some new traditions in the Big 10(or what ever they are going to call it).  I am a loyal Husker fan.  I would love to see Nebraska and Oklahoma start up a non conference game every year.  Day after Thanksgiving would be great.  For Nebraska, the death of the Big 12 could bring back the only true tradition worth saving.  NU-OU every year.

No big loss.  Add a BYU or Utah to the Big 12 and you've already upgraded the conference.  I know there is TV market share lost but some rumors say BYU and Air Force replace Colorado and Nebraska.  If that is the case you actually gain TV market share.

I think the schedules won't be affected for 2010. I wonder what the timeline is for them leaving? 2011? 2012?
