A golf outing scheduled to feature Michigan State coach Tom Izzo, his athletic director and multiple donors was canceled Friday, which added fuel to the belief that Izzo might be close to accepting an offer to be the next head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"MSU [football] coaches say it doesn't look good," Tweeted Jim Comparoni of Meantime, Izzo sent a text message to the Associated Press around 11:45 a.m. ET to say he remained undecided on his future. There is no timetable for a decision, but a source told on Friday that Izzo and the Cavs would both like to have this resolved soon, one way or another.

Izzo is mulling an offer believed to be worth around $6 million per year.

He's made six Final Fours in the past 12 seasons at Michigan State and won one national title.

Izzo cancels golf outing, still mulling

Wow, Izzo cancelled a golf outing with a bunch of rich guys? Before, I thought Tom was just angling for some love and maybe a bump in pay or something, but now I'm actually worried he's gonna take the Cav's job. Seriously, if he takes that job with no assurance LBJ is coming back then he's not nearly as smart as I thought he was.

Funny,  but Dick Vitale swore up and down emphatically a week or so ago on the Mike and Mike show that there was absolutely no way that Izzo would take the Cavs job.  Shows what he knows.  When will he just go away?

It would make absolutely no sense to take that job unless he know that Lebron James will be coming back to Cleveland.   Lon Kruger already made the mistake of leaving a great job at Illinois only to be back in the game 10 years later.  If Izzo was to leave MSU, they would replace him with Mark Montgomery more than likely.  Montgomery is ready to be a head coach, however, he will have no where near the recruiting power that Izzo has/had.  Before making this decision, he needs to realize that taking an NBA job requires coaches to take a back seat to star athletes that are paid more than he is.  His "rah rah", disciplinary ways will not work in the NBA.  If Lebron doesn't like him, he will have made the biggest mistake of his life.   Being the head basketball coach at MSU is a dream job for most coaches that are not coaching in major conferences, and coach bad teams.   If Izzo leaves, MSU could be quickly back to being U of M's little brother in basketball.

Please Mr. Izzo, think of all you have and would give up before making the biggest mistake of your life and leaving a school and town that adore you.

Izzo must've not watched Vitale on ESPN last night, though Dicky V was coming off being hit by a foul ball when he made his melodramatic plea for Izzo to stay in East Lansing. Then again, Vitale never makes sense, hit by a foul ball or not.

The money shouldn't be a factor. Granted, a jump from 3 mil to 6 mil is doubling his salary, but it's not a lifestyle change for someone in his position. It's not like going from making $35,000 and being check to check to making $75,000 and being comfortable. It's easy for me to say, but I think I would rather make 3 mil and be happy as "the man" at MSU and college b-ball for that matter, than take a chance at ruining my rep by being another failed college coach in the NBA. The NBA players will take Izzo's intense in your face style as long as they're winning, but when things go bad they'll turn on him because they're a bunch of spoiled punks and guess what- he'll be the one that goes. In college the coaches are the stars and the coaches call the shots, in the NBA the players ultimately call the shots. How many big name coaches have been run out of town in the NBA because the players didn't like him...a lot, otherwise you wouldn't have hall of fame coaches skipping from team to team every 4 or 5 years- Larry Brown, Don Nelson, Lenny Wilkins, etc...

Sometimes people just need new challenges and a change of scenery. I know that MSU fans want him to stay, but maybe he just wants to take a new challenge and leave his 'comfort zone' before he is to old ? How old is he now? 57 or 58?
