Report: Texas to commit to 10-school Big 12

Texas is set to announce, perhaps as early as Monday, that it is now committed to remaining in the Big 12 even without Nebraska and Colorado, according to a report by Chip Brown at OrangeBloods.com.

This is the latest development -- and by far the most important -- in the ongoing expansion of conferences. If it happens, it would greatly damage the Pac-10's hope of getting to 16 members by adding five more Big 12 schools to go with Colorado, which announced a move to the Pac-10 last week. The Pac-10 would probably then be reduced to adding Utah to create a 12-member league.

Orangebloods.com reported that Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebee has informed Texas it could make between $20 million and $25 million per year under a proposed new television deal, plus whatever it could make -- perhaps an additional $3 million to $5 million per year -- by starting its own network. It is unclear whether Beebee's estimations are accurate. But, either way, Texas is listening. The school now seems set to hold the Big 12 together and by extension prevent the nation's first "super conference" from being created because the Pac-10 stopping at 12 could cause the Big Ten to hold at 12, at which point it's possible the SEC's interest in expansion would also feign.

The Big 12 has no scheduled announcement of any kind as of Monday afternoon.

Meetings are reportedly ongoing.

Report: Texas to commit to 10-school Big 12

Boise State are idiots.
The rest of the Big 12 schools stay together, and Boise State and Utah could have been added to replace Nebraska and Colorado. Then, we wouldn't have had to hear every year how Boise State got screwed because they didn't play anyone. Instead, they jump on an invite to the meaningless MWC, which changes nothing.
PAC-10 might as well absorb Utah now that those Colorado idiots play in their conference anyway. That would at least solve Utah's lack of respect problems.

What in the hell is OU and OSU doing? Being lead around like a bunch of prostitutes by the pimp(Texas).  Stand up for yourselves and get the hell out of dodge. You are going to let Texas take in all this money, and stand by while you get your $10 million.  Bunch of fools, and where the hell is Stoops? Mike your have about 3 million reasons to speak your mind??  WTF??  Gundy since when did you bow down to the shorthorns??? Gundy the gunslinger, not anymore, Gundy and Stoops looks like fools!!  Lost all respect for you idiots!!
There is not a Big 12 in 5 years because you are all going to leave. OU and OSU, you should be begging the SEC to accept you or make the trek to the PAC 10!! Wilkinson is rolling over in his grave and Switzer is fit to be tied!

Replying to this is going to be stupid enough, but what the heck. Bob Stoops and Mike Gundy are paid employees of the universities. It is very likely they don't have any say in where their universities land. The ADs, regents and school presidents will likely decide.

As far as adding teams it makes sense, however the biggest problem is MONEY. Tulsa, Houston, Rice and SMU add no new TV regions ans will have zero effect on a TV negotiation contract. You would be dividing up an already attained market, and therfore casusing a loss in any new tv deals. Memphis makes sense, Tulane...I'm not so sure the following of tulane is strong enough to make an impact wither seems to be LSU all the way in NO. I could see Memphis as a possibility especially with what thier boosters are offering right now for them to be added to a BCS conference. 5-10 million. If they want to preserve a championship game in the Big12 I like the idea of Memphis, maybe even a Louisville could happen, far away but all good Markets, Memphis/ Louisville/Cinncinnati markets

Heck, I like it. Stay in the Big XII. A&M will stay if Texas does, so not a problem there. TCU would make a good replacement team for either Nebraska or Colorado. (yeah Huskers WERE great) and I'm sure there would be a LONG line of decent schools trying to make their case for membership into the Big XIII. Why go a make the PAC-10 alot more money. Keep it here!!!

@vitamin-b: You are correct, Nobody wins but Texas in this situation

Texas gets their money, network, and still keep calling the shots of the conf.

For all of those bashing A&M when they played Geogia in their bowl game, just stop.

Georgia didn't beat A&M, A&M beat A&M. Did y'all watch the game? Go back and look @ the stas, we killed them

Our problem was mistakes by us..ie. Snaps over the punters head to give Georgia a short field

And I'm not being biased either, I'm married to a Bulldog grad living in Georgia. I like the Bulldogs

Report: Texas to commit to 10-school Big 12

There are 4 winners here; Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, and Utah. Every other school involved loses.

Someone tell me what I'm not seeing here.
You forget Kansas St,Kansas,Mizzou,Baylor,Iowa St. because they all get to stay in a BCS confrence,  and like I said earlier every other school makes millions off of the University of Texas

Report: Texas to commit to 10-school Big 12

Maybe some of you Big 12 fans can help me out here. What advantage does anyone other than Texas have from staying? Texas will get their own network, which will be huge for them. They will be rolling in cash. How does that help OKU and Texas Tech? Shouldn't they still be looking to move on?

I guess I'm just confused as to why these schools are making decisions based on what's best for Texas instead of what's best for them. The Pac-10 (12, 16, whatever) even without UT is going to have it's own network soon. This will mean huge money for all involved. The Big 12 can't match that under any circumstance, especially since it's now essentially the Big 2. There are 4 winners here; Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, and Utah. Every other school involved loses.

Someone tell me what I'm not seeing here.

Funny how fast people forget how much money their school makes off of the university of Texas.. Texas only getting 25 million and the other getting 15 is more of a rip off to texas. due to the fact that they bring far more then 10 million more to the confrence then say KSU,KU,Iowa St, Texas Tech, and Mizzou.. People talking about how they are discusted with OU for following texas obviously don't understand that concept. Financially Texas carries the big 12. You can go anywhere in the country and find Texas fans. you can only say that with a few other schools in the nation. (USC,Florida,Ohio St, Michigan,Notre Dame)...
