Good first day in Vegas (no gambling so far)

LAS VEGAS -- I've been here seven hours without gambling, which I'm pretty sure is a personal record. But I've been busy with other things today, specifically a pair of speaking engagements that really were nice. First I spoke at the Rising Coaches Elite conference -- an event organized by and designed for guys trying to break into college coaching, mostly graduate assistants and video coordinators. After that I spoke at the Villa 6 convention -- an event mostly for Division I assistants looking to network and better understand what it takes to get from one place to the next.
Both events were tremendous.
Steve Lavin (St. John's), Brad Brownell (Clemson), Shaka Smart (VCU), Josh Pastner (Memphis), Mo Cassara (Hofstra), and Jim Christian (TCU) were among the head coaches who stopped by one place or the other to also speak. It all served as a reminder that there are some good coaches willing to carve time out of their days to give back and speak to those trying to travel the same path they've already traveled, and some hungry young guys willing to push aside the glitz and glamour of Vegas to sit in a conference room, ask questions and take notes.
All in all, a good day.
And with that, I'm out for the night.
Wish me luck.
