MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A body found Wednesday in a wooded area in southeast Memphis is former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, CBSSports.com learned early Wednesday.

The Wright family released a statment late Wednesday night confirming the death.

Wright was 34 years-old.

"Lorenzen’s family has come together to mourn his loss and honor his legacy," the statement said. "We appreciate your thoughts, prayers and condolences as they are comforting at this very difficult time. Additionally, we ask that you please respect our privacy as we try to cope with his sudden loss.”

Wright was last seen July 19 and reported missing last Friday. Memphis Police have not confirmed anything. But multiple media outlets are reporting that Wright was shot multiple times, meaning this will likely be considered a homicide investigation into the death of the former lottery pick.

Wright's death has special meaning in Memphis. The 6-foot-11 center is the rare athlete who played high school basketball (Booker T. Washington High), college basketball (University of Memphis) and professional basketball (Grizzlies) in his hometown. He leaves behind six children.

Statistics aside....who cares whether the death penalty prevents crime....just as long as they are dead. You are obviously the same supporter of the immigration reform measure that just got blocked in AZ too. I'll guess that you are a firm supporter of Obama/liberal democrat and its socialistic views. Where immigrants garner more rights and considerations than hard working, honest Americans are entitled to receiving. The Tea Party will root out many of you with your government spending/state rights interference/illegal immigrant rights (they should have none).

What does the Tea Party or immigration have to do with this article. Tea baggers just want to shove it down your throat no matter what the subject is. We are talking about the tragic death of a PERSON!! But on another note how many Tea Baggers employee these illegal immigrants??? What was so good about the Bush years?? Growing debt?? War?? Kick backs for the oil companies that have now ruined our Gulf?? Stop the madness.

If the death penalty was enforced within 5 years that would definitely make a difference 5 minutes.

I agree with you guys though, this is no time for a capital punishment debate. Although anyone who compares a death penalty advocate to a murderer clearly has no brain.

Exactly.  I am in the legal field and studies show that 0% of murderers even thought about the death penalty prior to killing someone.  Besides, there are automatic appeals in every state so convicts sit in air conditioning and get 3 square meals a day and health care on our dime.

On top of that, who are you or anybody else to decide who should be put to death and for what? Who is to say they should go to prison? I say let them live on your street.

Wait, putting to death a murderer is the same as murdering a completely innocent person?! And you aren't a limp wristed liberal??! Umm yeah you are. I'm not saying the death penalty deters, but to compare the two is just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

So, you consider the poster to be as big a monster as the people who did this? Get a clue!
