Allen not returning to Michigan State

Posted on: August 3, 2010 6:39 pm

Chris Allen will not return to Michigan State for the 2010-11 season, Spartans coach Tom Izzo announced Tuesday.

"It’s been no secret that Chris Allen’s been in a tenuous position since the spring," Izzo said. "There were multiple obligations that Chris had to meet in order to return for his senior season. While he did make progress through the summer, he has failed to meet all the obligations and will not be a part of our program this fall. I know he’s going to be a great player. He deserves another chance to play basketball somewhere, but it’s in everyone’s interest that it be somewhere other than Michigan State. Like every player, he has to mature a little bit. I think a year away from the game will be beneficial for his development as a person and a player."

Allen is a 6-foot-3 guard who averaged 8.2 points and 2.0 assists last season.

He still has one year of eligibilty remaining.

"Coach was straight-forward with me about what I needed to do to remain a part of the team. Unfortunately, I didn’t meet all the obligations," Allen said. "I have enjoyed my time at Michigan State and I appreciate all the support from my fans, and everyone associated with the program. It’s unfortunate things didn’t work out, but I’m leaving on good terms with my teammates and coaches."

STAY IN BIG TEN AND JOIN THE HAWKS.

Haha...we are in dire need of some athletic uptempo players. Sit out a year and get your marbles together and join the black and gold!

I for one can not wait to see the look on Tressel's face when Harbaugh is hired as UM's next coach in 2011.

so, you've already given up on this year?.... *shakes head*.... typical.

let's speculate and say you're right and uofm has another "stellar" year.  outside of tradition and name sake, this is a bad job for harbaugh initially.  just as rich rod has had trouble purging his program to get players that are atypical of what we normally see in the big ten and uofm specifically (smaller, faster athletes), harbaugh would spend the next two years getting rid of them because he favors the big offensive and defensive lines, power running, and the prototypical nfl quarterback -  tall, dropback passer.  that's a strong possibility of 5 years of average to below average teams between rich rod and harbaugh's start.

add to the fact that he's got stanford moving in the right direction.... and USC being weighed down with 30 less scholarships over the next three years.  USC will still be good, just not great.

short story, long.... just hiring harbaugh will not turn the program around instantly.  it would take more time than you think.

Allen not returning to Michigan State

I love how UM fans have to live in the past to draw their pleasure. What matters is the here and now. Here and now, MSU is dominating scUM. Period. Over 1000 days since a victory in football or in basketball. Apparently Little sister does whatever it takes to improve their programs too. You UM fans can have fun when your put on probation for cheating yet again!

blah blah blah

Typical UM - talking others down and talking about accomplishments in the distant past.

Your comment is especially confusing; yet funny, since UM doesn't have a basketball team.

Allen not returning to Michigan State

Ok so he's gone. Time to move on. On the court he was up and down. He was the better 3 pt shooter of the group. Hope Korrie or Appling can pick up the slack b/c that is where MSU had some big problems last year.  And they have a little more depth at guard than they do up front. Summers can play shooting guard instead of a swing forward.  Can we get a full injury free season from Roe? Will Payne step in and make a difference? Can Sherman develop and play defense? How will Green be as a starter instead of coming off the bench?

On the going forward front how limited is Lucas going to be? Where is heon his recovery?  Is he going to be "intimidated" by his injury and pull up or not take those chances anymore? It was a freak play with no-one touching him. Hope the injury bug is in the past.

Remember, UM is the winningest team in college football history, period !!!!!!

I just love the way ya'll include all those rugby matches in that tally.

1878 versus Racine, 1 goal to 0
1879 versus Toronto, 0 goals to 0

It goes on.

It wasn't until the 1890s that it even resembled football with 11 players, 10 yards, first downs, etc.
It wasn't until 1912 that a touchdown was worth 6 points.

I won't even mention all the athletic clubs, high schools, and military scratch games included. I won't mention the D-III, D-II, and D-IAA games either.

So, you want to include all those pickup games, all those rugby matches, go ahead. Bragging about such a tainted record justs amplifies your arrogance, nothing more.

Ya'll can quote all the historicals you want, but the only thing that is relevant is what has happened lately.

Dantonio is 2-1 versus UM.
Rodriguez is 0-2 versus MSU.

Career Dantonio vs. Rodriguez is 2-2.

Furthermore, in the past 2 seasons, MSU recruiting moved from top 50 to top 25 while UM recruiting dropped from top 10 to top 25.

66 days until Lil Missy is again humiliated in the Out House.

Hope ya'll are ready...
