Heavy rain in Ames, Iowa has caused massive flooding on the Iowa State campus and put the basketball court at Hilton Coliseum under eight feet of water, according to the Des Moines Register.

“It was floating,” ISU women's coach Bill Fennelly told the newspaper. “It’s really bad what’s happening; it’s sad."

Iowa State has posted video of the flooding on its website.

"Crazy rain," Iowa State men's coach Fred Hoiberg told CBSSports.com via text message. "Never seen anything like it. Can't get across town because of flooded streets."

Classy post phoggydog. We have seen our share of flooding one way or another over the entire state the past few years. I'm about an hour and a half northeast of Ames, and we had record floods in 2008. Unfortunately this was Ames's turn. I'm not a Cyclone fan, but right now I feel for everyone there and what they are going through. Nice to see that there are still a few decent people out there that realize sports is nothing more than entertainment. Especially when something like this is going on.

No, kanderm, we are not all like that, and usually twocoach is not either.
I hear they have closed campus and kids are leaving town. No one with any sense of decency would think this was funny at all. The costs of clean-up, the beginning of school interrupted, the inconvenience of having no water. Not a funny thing about any of it.

As for Hilton, well it may not be the prettiest of arenas, but it's soul comes from the faithful, loud, and loyal people who never cease to amaze me when the Hawks play up there. Give most schools the same run of poor seasons that the Cyclones have endured, and the majority of their fieldhouses would be near empty. Not so in Ames.

Hang tough, Cyclones. I'mpraying for Friday's storm to bypass you.

Some of you commenting about this story are cold, cold people. Like I said above, The community of Ames and Iowa State University is in a bad situation right now and some of you have the nerve to make comments about how bad the men's basketball team has been or how much of a dump Hilton is. Peoples lives and livleihood is in trouble right now and you guys have to make stupid comments like some of you have made. Put yourself in those people's situation. Shame on some of you people. SHAME!!! Iowa State University is a beautiful campus along with Hilton Colliseum being a great facility to watch a sporting event. It is a shame that this situation is going on.

Nobody is asking anyone to feel sorry for ISU. What is sad is that because of this flooding a water main has broken and drained a main water tower, so now everyone in Ames has to boil water before using it. And yes Kansas basketball facilities may be great, but you are in the same boat as ISU and Baylor when it comes to who wants your school outside of the craphole Big XII.

Not the least bit sorry for Iowa $tate

Hilton Coliseum is a dump. Just like the Devaney Center in Nebraska or Coors Events Center in Colorado.
