Davis commits to Kentucky

Anthony Davis committed to Kentucky on Friday a week after Michael O'Brien of the Chicago Sun-Times alleged that his father, Anthony Davis Sr., "negotiated a deal that promised $200,000 from someone who wanted" the heralded prospect to pledge his allegience to UK.

Anthony Davis Sr. confirmed the commitment to Scout.com.

"I hope UK is ready for the NCAA to come on in," one high-major coach texted to CBSSports.com after the story broke, point being that the NCAA will almost certainly spend time examining Davis' recruitment based on nothing more than the Sun-Times article. At this point, it doesn't matter whether the allegation has merit. This development will be scrutinized regardless, which is why many industry sources believed Davis might ultimately choose DePaul, Ohio State, Syracuse or some other college -- anybody other than Kentucky -- after last week's story went national.

But he didn't.

Consequently, John Calipari is now assured of having the nation's best recruiting class for the third straight season. Davis, ranked fifth in the Class of 2011 by Scout.com, is the third prospect ranked among the top six nationally to commit to UK. He joins Michael Gilchrist (No. 1) and Marquis Teague (No. 6).

Hey bgwildcat, tell us about all those NCAA championships UK has won this century or that Calipari has won EVER.  Tell us about your players' graduation rates.  Tell us about how Cal has never done anything wrong, that his leaving schools right befoer the NCAA showed up and vacated all their wins is purely coincidental.

While you're at it, you may as well tell us about how real the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny are.

And, did you know, North Carolina offered Harrison Barnes 12 bologna sandwiches to go to school there? Now THAT is news. Report THAT Mr. O'Brien.

Remember those three teams, that had the best talent by far, and he still couldn't win with them.  UMAS, Memphis (38-1) and that "great" class of Kentucky last year.

Nice revisionist history.  The UMass team was not the most talented team that year, it was without question the UK National Championship team.  (featuring no less than nine eventual NBA players.)  Please not that Calipari's UMass squad actually beat the UK squad early in the season, but UK avenged the loss in the Final Four.

So you couldn't possibly be any more wrong about that team.

Regarding The Memphis squad, and the UK squad, they were very talented teams, but they were by no means the consensus "most talented" teams those years.  Memphis came within a couple of missed free throws of winning a National Championship.  Pretty good for a guy that can't coach.  UK had 4 freshman playing significant minutes along with a JuCo transfer and a Junior that had never played for his new coach or under his new system before, and he got that group to the Elite Eight.  I'd still say pretty good for a guy that can't coach.

The Sun-Times is not retracting their online report,  so let's get the sources out in the open !   ( And if there are just rumors, the proposed legal papers should be filed this week ! )

There are few things in life that you can truly count on...the sun rising in the east, death, taxes, and obnoxious KY fans celebrating every "achievement" how ever insignificant while disparaging every other fanbase as jealous.  Thanks catman for living down to the stereotype.
