The general manager of the Turkish professional team for which Enes Kanter once played is claiming the club paid the Kentucky freshman more than $100,000 in cash and benefits over a three-year span, according to a report by Pete Thamel in the New York Times.

Thamel is in Turkey covering the FIBA World Championship and met with Nedim Karakas, general manager of Fenerbahce Ulker, at Karakas' office this week. Karakas told Thamel the club has provided the NCAA with banking and housing records that show Kanter received benefits never before acknowledged, which could jeopardize the 6-foot-11 forward's amateur status.

UK officials released a statement Tuesday night.

"Kentucky is working diligently with the NCAA on this matter, and we fully support Enes Kanter and his family through this ongoing NCAA review," the statement read. "We will have no further comment."

Kanter is but one heralded freshman whose amateur status remains under review. CBSSports.com reported last month that Kansas guard Josh Selby has yet to be cleared because of questions about his amateur status. A source told CBSSports.com on Tuesday that Selby's case remains unresolved.

I still believe he will play, I haven't flopped on that.......and when he does, he will be one of the top 2-3 big men in the NCAA (sorry Henson didn't make the cut).......there are scouts that say he is the #1 NBA Draft pick right now.......

You just sit tight there little buddy.......the old KatinTex will handle all this stuff.......and don't forget, we'll be swinging by the Dean Dome in December to give you your annual ass-kicking (with or without Kanter).........

Report: Kanter got $100,000-plus from pro team

The Turkish team SAYS he got this, but will not provide documentation to back it up, simply because Turkey wants to stick it to the NBA, and keep their talent from the NBA.  You all are such stupid sheep willing to be led by anyone with a hard on for Cal.  Suck it, and watch UK kick your team's ass this year, just like always. My bet is it doesn't hurt Kanter's chances much, the Turkish sources have an admittedly open agenda about killing the kid's chance to play in the US, it removes their ability to get payment from the NBA team that drafts him...
Wow, the UK fans are out in full force, and surprise!  Instead of actually focusing on the content of the article, like any rational person might consider doing first, they resort to personal attacks on the author of the article and anybody else who does not agree with their always loud, often abusive, and perenially trolling posts.  Let's see:  "Karakas told Thamel the club has provided the NCAA with banking and housing records that show Kanter received benefits never before acknowledged, which could jeopardize the 6-foot-11 forward's amateur status."  There goes the whole theory about not providing documentation to back it up.  When Kanter signed up to play with UK, you all knew this might happen.  I guess handling it with grace and tact might be too much to ask.  If you take "*u%ktards" and drop the * and the %, you get a couple of UKtards.

OK *u%ktards, here it is, plain and simple, so even you morons can understand it: This report was thrown out by the NY Times, who just so happened to put out the Bledsoe BS, which, for all of you too stupid to know, came to nothing.

Nothing new here at all

Big deal......what we just "discovered" fromfamed UK hater Pete Thamel is exactly what we already knew......Kanter was paid while playing on a professional team in Turkey.......we knew that 6 months ago. So what ?? What we don't know is how the NCAA will interpret the payment amount, along with the myriad additional factors, in determing what to do. Frankly, it doesn't surprise me that he received $100,000.......If he's gotten a free ride to Harvard it would have been that much over a 3 year period.........My bet is it doesn't hurt Kanter's chances much, the Turkish sources have an admittedly open agenda about killing the kid's chance to play in the US, it removes their ability to get payment from the NBA team that drafts him.

In my opinion, this is just another example of this reporter stepping outside the boundaries of good journaism to hurt Calipari and UK in general, that is his agenda. With the possible exception of Pat Forde, Thamel is the most anti-Kentucky writer in the nation. He started the whole Eric Bledsoe fiasco that will forever cast him as an irrespondsible hack. He is a discredit to all journalists.

And he is vilified in the Commonwealth...............loathed.
