Wake Forest has granted Tony Woods a release from its basketball program so that the 6-foot-11 center can "pursue other options," the school announced Monday. So if you're a coach looking for a junior who last month pleaded guilty to assault after an incident during which he allegedly caused his girlfriend to suffer a fractured spine, well, today is your lucky day.

"We wish Tony the best of luck in all his future endeavors," said Wake Forest coach Jeff Bzdelik. "Tony and I met a number of times and we felt this was the best course of action for him."

Woods averaged 4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds last season.

Yep. It was Jeremy Hunt. Cal dismissed him from the team but brought him back a year later, so he basically served a one year suspension. The rumor was he hit her in the face with a close fist. Fractured spine from Woods? Sounds like the D-league is waiting.

I'm guessing he's being looked at as a possible replacement for Enes Kanter... didn't one of Cal's players at Memphis beat his girlfriend?
