Zeller picks Indiana

Class of 2011 standout Cody Zeller committed to Indiana on Thursday.

Zeller chose the Hoosiers over an offer from Butler and another from North Carolina. The 6-foot-10 center from Washington, Ind., is rated 20th nationally by Rivals.com. He's likely to become his family's third McDonald's All-American, joining brothers Luke Zeller (played at Notre Dame) and Tyler Zeller (now plays at North Carolina).

Zeller is IU's second commitment from the Class of 2011.

The other is Austin Etherington, a 6-5 wing from Arcadia, Ind.

Come on IU? Tom Crean is a good coach but I don't think Unc and Duke are the easy choices. It takes a kid who is going to want to be in the spotlight 24/7, tow the line, work in the classroom and be willing to share the ball. Let's see what IU does against those easy choices.....

What the hell does Cody Zeller's commitment to Indiana and Tom Crean have to do with "thug schools such as cincy - louisville - memphis and kentucky?"

I've been quick in the past to jump on John Calipari as a fraud and Rick Pitino as an overrated car salesman but I'm actually going to come to their defense-- much to my own dismay.  You clearly have a grudge against those four schools for some of the players they've had in the past whom you believe were some kind of embarrassment or stain on college athletics.  Next time, pick a story where your ignorance and bigotry might be remotely relevant to the discussion at hand.

Cody Zeller would have looked great in Tar Heel blue, but I congratulate Indiana.  The sport is better with Indiana as a factor, so I hope this gets things rolling in the right direction for them.

It's actually nice to see a top prospect who has the courage to do what feels right, rather than making the easy choice.  Losing out to Indiana and Tom Crean is O.K., because at least you have to feel like there was nothing underhanded involved.

I like hearing this kind of comment from a Purdue fan, spectres85.  I agree with you completely.  Seems like all I have heard from Purdue fans lately has been pile on IU while they're down type comments and knucklehead Purdue fans around Indianapolis rooting for the Saints last Super Bowl!(But that's for another thread).  I love seeing multiple Indiana colleges doing well.  I miss the late '90s when 5 or 6 Indiana teams were good on a regular basis.  With Div II University of Indianapolis laying a beatdown on Tennesee this week, maybe we have another Div I school in the making in Indiana.

Would have been nice to see him down in Chapel Hill with big bro Tyler.  Might have been the twin towers, if only for a year.  Good luck Cody.  Hope he can help bring the Hoosiers back from the abyss.

I'm aqctually quite pleased with his choice of Indiana (Go Hoosiers!!) The program just seems like a good fit for him and if you guys have followed his high school career you see that the offensive styles if duke and unc are not in his his favor. It was also mentioned at http://therogueisland.blogspot.com that the hoosiers heavily recruited his two brothers. i think this will be a great fit for him and look forward to tuning into some games. Such an athletic family!!

As a Purdue fan, I'm actually glad Cody's going to IU. Indiana needs to keep its 4 & 5 star recruits within as it used to always be like. Purdue's thriving with primarily hoosier natives and I hope IU can get back to that same trend, as well. Those Keady/Knight recruiting battles could be back right around the corner..

I'm sick of teams like Duke and North Carolina taking everything that's not in their own backyard.

This is what the IU Nation has been waiting for.  Even if Cody turns out to be a "normal" bball player, it's the perception that these highly ranked players are willing to come to IU and get that program back on track.  Kelvin Sampson should be ashamed of himself and not be able to show hif face anywhere near a basketball player / team ever again!  But again, the NBA doesen't care who they have around their teams.

THIS IS SO AWESOME, Crean has landed the recruit hes wanted for a long time. such a huge step forward for our program. Cody and Etherington, then adding Perea in 2012, the rebuilding is in full force. THe program is legitimate again and will soon be back on the National Stage
