I don't think some of you all understand what rankings should be.  This early in the season, it really shouldn't matter "where some team was ranked" last week when formulating this week's rankings; in the case of UConn, they showed this week that they are a very good basketball team, which they demonstrated by impressively beating some good teams.  It's not that their wins mean they should "jump up" in the polls; rather, by winning, the pollsters (including Gary) observed that the team is good.

I don't know if UConn definitely is one of the best 5 teams in th nation (but no one knows at this point in the season), but just because they weren't ranked last week (on speculation) doesn't mean that the pollsters haven't learned more information this week.

Ill have to argue with the facts.  I agree that he ranked UCONN in the top 5 as they HAVE proven to beat someone of worth, starting with Michigan State!  They have all the pieces to last yrs team that went to the final 4.  Who has Kansas played and beaat this yr that proves their worth in the top 10?  A mediocre Arizona team?  Or maybe that tough one against Texas Corpal Christian Academy.  And UCONN also beat Kentucky.  Who is still at #12.  So to say that they beat decent teams is underated a bit.  They have beat 2 quality teams.  More than Kansas can say.  Im not a fan of UCONN, but they deserve the ranking.  The schedule they have played beats any other D1 school.  Stop whining.  Or you can come back to knoxville and we can beat you guys with our male cheerleaders playing like we did last yr.  Minnesota I dont think they DESERVE to be there as they have only beat UNC and West Virginia.  And we all know UNC sucks.  Say what you want but they lost to a mediocre Vanderbilt team and were lucky to have beat WV.  HA.  And UNC thought they were top 10 team.  Losers.  I also would like to re-iterate that the VOLS should be above KY and Texas.  Period.  Its not like Villanova sucks, we just shut down 2 of the top 15 guards in the country in one game.  Thats called speed and defense.  It wins Championships.  Dont have to like it but the VOLS are doing big things this yr.  Should be in the top 5 after we knock off Pitt in what is essentially a home game for them.  Keep on hating haters.  GO VOLS!

I do agree with the earlier poster. UConn beats a few decent teams and they go from unranked to a top 5 team?  Hardly.

Wow, KS State and Michigan State ahead of KU?  Connecticut beats a couple of over-rated teams and jumps in the top 5.  Minnesota beats of couple of unranked teams (at least teams that should never have been ranked and arne not ranked anymore) and is ahead of KU, too?  Why is Baylor ahead of KU, too?  Who have they played and have they played well enough to justify even a top 10 ranking?

I'm not sure what you don't like about a team with the top offensive and defensive efficiency in Divion 1 BB per Ken Pom, but there must be some reason you're keeping them in the bottom half of the top 10 and dropped them for winning the Las Vegas Invitational.

You got a lot of flukes up there, UCONN, Baylor, MInn and Memphis won't be near the top 10 by mid season or season end.

Looky there!  Good job Gary!  You get my approval! Although you could have put us ahead of Kentucky and Texas.  Nuff said!
