Xavier down to nine scholarship players

Posted on: December 29, 2010 1:57 pm
Xavier freshman Jay Canty is expected to miss the next four to six weeks with a stress fracture in his right foot, the school announced Wednesday. The development leaves the Musketeers with just nine scholarship players heading into Friday's game against Florida. Even worse is that Canty was the only reserve equipped to play on the perimeter, meaning Xavier now has no perimeter reserves.

Canty was averaging 9.5 minutes per game.

Xavier is 8-3 this season.

The Musketeers have wins over Butler and Seton Hall.

Their losses are to Old Dominion, Miami-Ohio and Gonzaga.

Xavier down to nine scholarship players

Xavier's had a lot of injury and ineligibility issues this season, I really feel bad for Canty who seemed to be getting more comfortable in the games. Now we're either going to have to play some walk-ons for a few minutes at SF, which we already do at the SG, or play either 6'9'' PF's Robinson or McKenzie at the SF. It's going to be an interesting couple of months.
