Michigan State junior Korie Lucious has been dismissed from the Spartans basketball team for the remainder of the season, coach Tom Izzo announced late Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, Korie Lucious displayed conduct detrimental to the program," Izzo said. "My focus is on this team for the remainder of the season.”

It's unclear whether Lucious might be allowed to return next season.

He, like Izzo, released a statement Tuesday night.

“I didn’t live up to the standards of the program," Lucious said. "Unfortunately, I let my teammates, my coaches, and myself down, and wish them the best for the rest of the season."

Lucious was averaging 6.5 points and 4.1 assists for the 25th-ranked Spartans.

Michigan State plays Michigan on Thursday at the Breslin Center.

I agree, CoachK, but you can count comparable coaches on one hand (and yes, you have one of them).  However, none of them would come from the Big East or SEC.

Any school would drop their coach tomorrow if they could get him.  I really believe ANY school would.  Every school would
I know at least one School that would'nt drop thier Coach tomorrow. Laughing

However, I get your point. He is a future hall of famer and any School would be lucky to have em'.

Unfortunately for all those other School's, Izzo will never Coach at any other University.

Losing Lucious will hurt, but dont count them out come March.

MSU's Lucious dismissed for rest of season

Ever since Lucious left my old high school, Rufus King High in Milwaukee, after his freshman year I knew he would be bad news. He had issues with playing time because he didn't start over seniors, but he still played major minutes. Thus, he got suspended a few games and then transfered to another high school where he couldn't even beat his old high school. Rufus King had a state championship caliber team year in year out, but Lucious could never handle being second fiddle to anyone. Obviously he still can't.

misleading how in the top stories on the home page it says "Lucious was kicked off team" if he was only suspended for rest of the season. Get your shit straight CBS

Boy, anyone suggesting Izzo be fired is either really dumb, or is just trying to rile up the masses.

With Appling's emergence, Lucious becomes expendable.  His demeanor as of late has been awful, and he likely pulled some crap that sent Izzo over the edge.

Good for Tom to just axe him straight up.  I love that.  He plays the right angle when needed.

The schedule softens up for the rest of the year, which should ensure us a 5 or 6 seed.  Still a dangerous team come tourney time, regardless of what any other fans say.

Keep it up UK, etc fans...don't be bitter about our success in the tourney.  MSU deserves the respect it gets, and then some.  Get over it.

Just cut our turnovers per game in half.  The other players are going to rally around each other after this.  UM would get beat anyway but now they're gonna get smoked. Where's Ovalox?  Time to eat your words. Payday is tomorrow.

Obviously, I don't know what happened here, but I have to believe that Izzo was tired of letting the inmates run our asylum.  First it was Nix, then Summers, now Luscious.  I think, hopefully, that this will light a fire under Summers, who has been this year's biggest disappointment.  Don't count us out just yet, though.  I've done that in the past and then they surprise me.  I hope they surprise me again.  At least we get a bye tomorrow against UM.

I hate Izzo.. I said it.. I'll say it again... I HATE IZZO!!  But.. the reason is that he seems to every other damn year see my Wildcats in the dance & he beats them.  I only hate his ass becuz we can't beat his ass... lol.  But.. dude gets mad props from me.  Izzo is a class act, he runs a seemingly clean program, he does things the right way.  And I hate it, because he's that damn good.  I don't know how he does it.. I will let others speculate but he's good.  And to the guy that said he's only good because he gets a favorable seeding... that's the awesome thing about the dance... it will work itself out.. if you're a pretender.. you will be found out.  He's not.. he consistently over achieves and has his guys eating his words with 2 spoons.  Any school would want him.. Any school would drop their coach tomorrow if they could get him.  I really believe ANY school would.  Every school would.  And in case you forgot... I HATE Izzo.

Fire Izzo??  Yeah right !! Awesome idea !!  You can ignore the past if you want and focus on part of one bad season that they are having this year, but that would be the dumbest thing any team in college basketball has ever made.

If Izzo was ever fired there would be a.d's tripping over themselves sending private jets and planes to Izzo for a meeting.  He would have a job as quickly as he would like one and would most likely become the highest paid coach in college basketball.

He's THAT good... nobody else is better at his job then that guy is.....
