Michigan State junior Korie Lucious has been dismissed from the Spartans basketball team for the remainder of the season, coach Tom Izzo announced late Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, Korie Lucious displayed conduct detrimental to the program," Izzo said. "My focus is on this team for the remainder of the season.”

It's unclear whether Lucious might be allowed to return next season.

He, like Izzo, released a statement Tuesday night.

“I didn’t live up to the standards of the program," Lucious said. "Unfortunately, I let my teammates, my coaches, and myself down, and wish them the best for the rest of the season."

Lucious was averaging 6.5 points and 4.1 assists for the 25th-ranked Spartans.

Michigan State plays Michigan on Thursday at the Breslin Center.

Corrupt program?  I daresay the UF athletic program is more corrupt than UK.  As for UF "waxing" UK in two weeks, we'll just have to wait and see.  Both teams have shown inconsistency all year.

Yea, MSU WILL probably have a good run in the tournament; after all, when you're dropping games like Kim Kardashian drops dudes, and STILL somehow stay in the top 25, well you're gonna get a favorable seed and matchup, most likely.  Don't get me wrong, I like Izzo, and was a huge proponent of UK going after him when they disastrously hired Billy Clyde a few years back, but not even Izzo can create talent where there is none, and this year's team is not as talented as probably 40-45 other teams in the country this year.  But, as I said, because of who he is, the media will never dare to drop them from the top 25, even if they're sitting at 15-10, or similar.....

MSU's Lucious dismissed for rest of season

Luscious has been the only good Spartan player this year.

Nope dummy.  Not even close.  I still believe Lucious is a very good player but he has been in a horrible slump for weeks.  Still I wish her were still part of the team.  After all, he hit the shot against Maryland last year and came up with 3 huge first half threes in the final 4 win against UConn two years ago.

Izzo knows that this season is a wash.

Izzo lost his starting point guard last year and still went to the Final Four.  The season is never a wash at MSU.  If you don't think this team can turn it around.... go ahead and doubt them.  I've done that in the past.  In 2005 we dropped the first game of the big ten tourney to Iowa... and then proceeded to beat Duke and Kentucky on the way to the Final Four.  I now other fans get tired of hearing State fans reference the past and yes, I get that this is a new year.  But let's just say this isn't the first time everyone has doubted/bashed/languished in State's failures only to see MSU surprise everyone including their own fans.

I'm not saying it will happen, but if anyone can rally this team it's Izzo starting this Thursday against MI Nightmare's pathetic Michigan Wolverines.  As a Michigan fan, I'm sure he does want Izzo fired, but too bad.  Leave it to U of M to do all the ridiculous hirings and firings.  Now Wolverines, assume the position.  Your routine beating is coming tomorrow.

MSU's Lucious dismissed for rest of season

I have no rooting interest in Michigan State. However, there are some posts suggesting that Coach Izzo be fired. Are you guys out of your freakin' minds? Do you realize that every Michigan St player who makes it to his senior year has played in a Final Four at some point in their careers? That is remarkable.

Definitely some clueless posters in here. And that one guy's username is "dtownoveratted".
..really? Don't worry about him.

Losing Luscious does not make us awful. He was not the Spartans best player this year.

This loss does hurt the team, though. Anybody who says otherwise is a knucklehead. He is a good guard. He was leading our team in assists. He can shoot the 3 ball with the best on our team. He obviously shot it poorly the past 4 games...which is a reason we needed back to back OT games at home to get W's and lost our last 2. But he is a good shooter. His shooting struggle hurt our team, and losing him completely will, too.

I guess this is a good time to dismiss him if there was a time. Lucas just getting back healthy. Appling with some nice experience behind him.

Hopefully the Spartans can still get it together to save this extremely underachieving, disappointing season. I wish we had another 3 point threat on the team. We'll see.
