Michigan State junior Korie Lucious has been dismissed from the Spartans basketball team for the remainder of the season, coach Tom Izzo announced late Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, Korie Lucious displayed conduct detrimental to the program," Izzo said. "My focus is on this team for the remainder of the season.”

It's unclear whether Lucious might be allowed to return next season.

He, like Izzo, released a statement Tuesday night.

“I didn’t live up to the standards of the program," Lucious said. "Unfortunately, I let my teammates, my coaches, and myself down, and wish them the best for the rest of the season."

Lucious was averaging 6.5 points and 4.1 assists for the 25th-ranked Spartans.

Michigan State plays Michigan on Thursday at the Breslin Center.

You are offender #1 on the ignorant comment list. Lucious has been the only good Spartan this year? Guy shot like 1-25 in the last 3 games. Watch games and know what you're talking about before you comment.

Thank goodness. This guy is a turnover machine and has been one of the many disappointments. Now we can get Keith Appling more time, he has look like our best guard at times but minutes are tough to come by. I pray Izzo turns to Appling and Austin Thorton. He is the worst basketball player at MSU... not on just the team, at the whole school!

MSU's Lucious dismissed for rest of season

Does everyone here know the difference between Kalin Lucas and Korie Lucious? Lucious is a backup, he doesn't start, I'm not saying this lost doesn't hurt us or this isn't a big deal but to say "this effectively ends talk that MSU will get it together for tourney" is just ignorant. Lucious is not Lucas. If it was Kalin Lucas, yes, our season would be over. And Korie never had a chance at the NBA, he's barely 6 feet tall. A majority of these comments are just incredibly ignorant.

So, I think its safe to say the Spartans are not meeting the preseason expectations.  First you have Nix going all soft, then Summers' desire to be a real player continues to diminish, and not Lucious gets to take a seat next to me in the Izzone.  What the hell is going on here?  Sure Izzo's sticking to his guns, but how can he not motivate these guys to do what's right?  That's always been his thing.  Take 3-star talent and turn them into a 5-star team.  I don't see a long tourney run this year, but I'll remain hopeful that maybe this will allow Izzo to give Appling more playing time.  And while he's at it, please give Adrian Payne some more minutes.  Hell, I'd like to see Garrick Sherman get out there and ball a little bit more as well.

Should kick Izzo off the team while they're at it. The guy has been a pathetic crybaby all season.

Either that, or it's addition by subtraction.

Lucious has definitely not been the best player on that team. If anything, he could be the most underachieving one, but sadly that goes to Summers.

Well, this team went from underachieving, to awful in 1 move.  Luscious has been the only good Spartan player this year.  Losing him for the remainder of the season is going to really hurt any chances the Spartans had in the Big Dance.  Unfortunately, he and Chris Allen just didn't learn their lessons.  Izzo, unlike most coaches in D-1, runs a clean program and will remove any player that doesn't live up to his/the universities standards.  Izzo knows that this season is a wash.  Just goes to prove that his team is only good on paper, because they are not even close to the team they were a year ago.  Too bad too, because this team had a real good chance at the start of the season.  Too bad they underachieved.  Good luck Kory at Iowa State with Chris Allen.
