And my new top four would be ...

1. Ohio State
2. Pittsburgh
3. Texas
4. Kansas

So, yes, it would be exactly the same as the top four from the latest Top 25 (and one) that was published Sunday night, i.e., roughly 24 hours before Kansas State ran Kansas off the court and cruised to an 84-68 victory at Bramlage Coliseum. Why no change? Because I think the gap between my No. 4 (Kansas) and my No. 5 (Notre Dame) was too wide for one KU loss on the road to a rival to completely close it. In other words, I would leave Kansas No. 4 after this loss at KSU for the same reason I left Ohio State No. 1 after that loss at Wisconsin, because the Jayhawks' body of work suggests that remains where they ought to be positioned.

Kansas is still 6-2 against Top 50 RPI teams with no losses outside of the Top 35.

My No. 5, Notre Dame, is 7-3 against Top 50 RPI teams with one loss outside of the Top 35.

(Most people's No. 5, Duke, is 6-2 against Top 50 RPI teams with one loss outside of the Top 35.)

Is it close and debatable?

Sure.

But if the NCAA tournament started today, I'd still have KU as a No. 1 seed along with Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Texas. Notre Dame, San Diego State, Duke and BYU would be my No. 2 seeds. Georgetown, Wisconsin, Connecticut and Villanova would be my No. 3 seeds, and Florida, Louisville, Purdue and Vanderbilt would be my No. 4 seeds.

Well think of it this way. what tunes up teams for the national championship run? It's not the non-conference schedule, but the competition they play from january and february that prepares a national contender....thats where they learn what to do and not to do in certain sitations....

Not to ride the coat tails of the ACC, but I got to admit. Over the last 20 years, they have had the best basketball conference in America. The Big East and Big 10 are always very good too. The SEC has been utterly horrible the last 3 or 4 years, after the Florida title teams. But this year the ACC isn't  that strong. This isn't like football, when a team from the SEC wins a championship and claims the whole conference as best.  IN basketball, you actually have to survive through 6 grueling rounds. It's the best time of the year in sports. PERIOD!! The only time that comes close is watching the major BCS Bowls. Not just the championship game. Sorry SEC. The Rose Bowl was the game of the year, I thought. And I'm a Big 10 supporter. The Sugar was great too though.

As far for as the MWC goes, btb just as laughable, if the top two teams were removed, the rest of the league has won only 54% of their games! (Not a whole lot of toughness to me!!!!)

And yet, one of those "rest of the league" teams beat two Big 12 teams (both on the road), and another "rest of the league" team beat K-State in front of 18,442 in Kansas City's Sprint Center (basically on the road), and yet a third "rest of the league" team who will likely finish dead last in the Mtn West went 1-1 against Big-12 teams (both on the road).

The "rest of the league" may only have a 54% winning percentage overall, but it's just too bad they can't play more Big-12 teams - and just imagine if they could get some of those at home!!

I am a huge KU fan. Ku is so lucky to be at number 4 on this list after the beatdown they took to their rival KSU. I just hope KU can get back on track get a number one seed and go to the NCAA tournament on a winning streak.
This is my top 5

1. Pitt
2.Ohio State
3.Texas
4.Duke
5. Kansas
I think at the 4 and 5 spot those two can be switched around.

I just remembered why I stopped posting on forums, because a lot of these posts are sarcastic nonsense from angry fans thinking their team isn't getting enough credit.

Not much effort in your arguement at all. To say that if Texas were in the Big East that chances are they wouldn't make the tournament is well.... laughable. As far for as the MWC goes, btb just as laughable, if the top two teams were removed, the rest of the league has won only 54% of their games! (Not a whole lot of toughness to me!!!!)

I guess that means the MVC Horizon is the 2nd best conference because Butler was runnerup last season?

wow, nikerst.  The ACC is the best conference because their team won the NCAAs?  Really? So the best conference is based on one team.  It doesn't matter if the rest of the teams are terrible?  I guess that means the MVC is the 2nd best conference because Butler was runnerup last season?

golflad, not sure what your problem is with Notre Dame.  Have you watched them play this season?  They are ranked #8 or #9 in pretty much every poll.  They have only lost 4 games playing in the toughest conference in the country.  They would be an obvious 2 or 3 seed.  That is until they lose to WVU this coming Saturday.
