If I had to project the field right now ...

If there is any complaing to do it shouldn't be about the Big East, it should be about the yearly pass given to Duke & North Carolina.  ESPN is not stupid, they know what teams get the top talent each season; and know the cream will rise to the top as a result...
So UNC and Duke, who have won 3 of the last 6 NCAA tournaments, gets a yearly pass.  That statement is ridiculous.  The Big East is the toughest conference and should get 10 or 11 teams into the dance, but don't let that cloud your judgement on those teams who actually get the job done in the end!

If I had to project the field right now ...

"If I had to project the field right now ..."

The key to that statement is "right Now" as in today, before games start tonight, because as this last month has taught al of us that follow this most awesome sport is that it can and WILL change. As a burnt orange bleeding Longhorn fanatic (through good time and otherwise), I couldn't help but get extremely pumped up listening to most honest pundents said (until a week ago) that the Longhorns without doubt were the best team in the country regardless of the USC game and the Uconn & Pitt loses by a combined 3 pts, that there wasn't a team in the country playing with the complete balanced in your face style of play! What a difference a week makes. Now all I hear is that Barnes is being Barnes and choking!! The one thing that I can say about there play as of late is they are damn well prepared and coaching wasn't the issue, but Barnes can't take the shots and how he can be blamed, still boggles my mind anyway. The one thing that the last 2 weeks has shown me is that there will be no March Madness this year as it will be replaced by March Insanity!! I just can't wait for the brackets to be filled in and the insanity begins. So strap yourselves in boys and girls cuz we're about to go on the ride of our lives!!!!! HOOKEM HORNS!!!

take the blinders off, uconn should be no more than a 5 seed, their impressive wins, (mich st., ky., came early) only texas n look what they are doing.
I am a big UConn fan and all I see is jack up a 3, no rebounding, if it goes, ok, if not, oh well
the last 2 weeks have been fine examples.

KCBBQ, I would not be so quick to claim KU's wins over Ohio U and Michigan as being any big deal.  In fact, it is quite a stretch.  Ohio was pretty good last year, but this is not the same team this year.  The Bobcats are in the middle of the pack in the MAC, which is no big deal.  To call Ohio U a "good team" is major spin on your part.  Now Michigan is a pretty decent team, but it is only the 7th place team in the Big Ten.  The Wolverines are an NCAA bubble team at best, yet they took Kansas to OT before falling.  And that is KU's best road win.  I admit Kansas has looked impressive while blowing out inferior competition.  The Jayhawks do have a few good wins:  Arizona, UCLA (both of whom you mention), Mizzou and K-St.  I'm not hating on KU...I still think it's worthy of a 1-seed.  I'm just calling you on a homer comment.

don't know if he just forgot it or would like to just like to forget it but. in last year's tourney, the greatest team with the greatest coach and greatest ,smartest, nicest fans in the country lost to ,wait for it... a Big East team! go figure. i'm sure that just slipped his mind. maybe that Marquette loss in the region final a few years ago did too. get over your OCD with UofL ,Rick Pitino and the Big East. you need to worry about vandy and a 10-loss Tenn team coming up.

KCBQ,
If you are pointing to teams like Ohio as good wins, then your resume is pretty weak. but I agree they should be a top seed. They have a far better team than 99% of other schools.

BYUBLU2, your proposal is good for a laugh!
1. Eliminate  all conferences. People love conferences second only to their teams, dumb idea.
2. Rank each university over a running five year timeframe. Teams changes dramatically each year, dumber idea.
3. Rank is similar to RPI. RPI is seriously flawed, because the key is not scheduling good teams, it is to not schedule really bad teams, dumber idea yet.
4. divide all teams into groups of 16 (replaces conferences) , teams like to play rivals and reduce travel, really dumber idea yet.
5. Force university to schedule all games within nearest 30 rankings. This would make the flaw of the RPI worse yet, a team with an RPI of 310, playing teams RPI 311-340, could possiby go undefeated, however, no one would know they are RPI 310 because they have not played a true top 100 RPI team to get a reference point. By far the dumbest idea of all!
