If I had to project the field right now ...

So stupid question but if all the top teams in the big east just keep beating each other..  do you just give a number 1 seed to who-ever wins the big east tourament? even if its the number 3-6 big east team?  I mean Pitt is a good team.. but now is not the time you want to see a number 1 seed lose 2 of its past 3 games..  To me thats not what a number 1 seed does in febuary no matter who they are playing.

the problem is stats are just that, stats. I wonder if BYU were the Big East or ACC, would they have those same stats? The intangibles worry me. I hope they do well, go deeper than Ainge's Cougars did, but I don't think they will.

The new slogan for the Big East.. "We are so spectacular, we haven't won an NCAA men's basketball title since 2004."

BYU is #1 RPI, #10 SOS, and 9-1 vs RPI Top 50. NOBODY has a better record against the RPI Top 50.

The MWC is fourth in RPI, ahead of the ACC and the SEC, and behind only the Big East, the Big Ten, and the Big 12.

If RPI means anything, it shows that BYU is fully deserving of a #1 seed.

If I had to project the field right now ...

Yes, we have to look back really far into the past to find a year in which the Big East had 4 teams in the Elite Eight.  Oh wait, it happened in 2009 when they had 5 (Pitt, UConn, Nova, Syracuse, Louisville).  Unfortunately, Nova and Pitt met in the Elite Eight.  A Scottie Reynolds miracle drive kept Pitt from reaching a modern era Final Four, and the world was robbed of what would have probably been an awesome matchup between Dejuan Blair and Tyler Hansborough.

If I were a Kansas fan, I'd rather have th 8th, 9th, and 10th place teams in the tournament rather than another mid-major like, say, Northern Iowa.

If I had to project the field right now ...

It always amazes me that all these Big (L)east honks say they should have 4 teams in the Elite 8 when every year they tank in the tourney. Pitt has NEVER made it to a Final Four, Syracuse, UConn, Louisville....REALLY? Gtown just lost their best player...let's see who does that leave...St Johns gimme a break. Same with all you East Coast guys. Duke got exposed, North Carolina is better but not Top 10, I say keep the 8th, 9th, and 10th place teams from the Big (L)East at home and let some of these good mid-major teams have a shot.

So everyone keeps saying BYU should be a 1 seed, and their resume shows it. So lets really look at their resume and not just the numbers.

Best wins:
Arizona(okay decent win but what has arizona done this year)
UNLV(decent team but still nothing special)
San Diego State(who we've all seen is extremely over rated, with really no good wins against anyone but still ranked high somehow)
Colorado St( whos best win is Southern Miss, lost to kansas by 21 and lost to Sam Houston?)

Loss:
UCLA(Not a bad team ,but really if your scheduling anyone a game you should have to win)
New Mexico(Can write off as everyone has a bad game every once in awhile)

So we're saying BYU derserves a 1 seed, a team that beat South Florida by 2 points(South Florida is 3-13 in the big east). While people look at Pitt and think they're questionable for a 1 seed blows my mind. Basically if BYU gets a 1 seed we're saying schedule 2 or 3 good teams on your schedule and play a bunch of average teams and you'll be good. Doesn't make sense now does it? I think BYU is decent team but by no means do i think they deserve a 1 seed ahead of teams like Pitt, Kansas, Texas or Ohio State. If BYU gets a 1 seed like any of those 3, that would be putting them on the same level as those four. I for one would put a whole lottttt of money against BYU winning a game against any of those four, but just my opinion.

NCAA tournament selections are not made using the USA Today or Coaches poll.  The committee looks at record and RPI.  So, it is entirely possible that BYU could get a #1 Seed because of their high RPI, which I believe is #2 or #3.

If I had to project the field right now ...

When the number one seeds play will depend on what sub regional they are placed in.  BYU would likely be a number one seed playing in Denver (the closest sub regional to Provo) on Thursday-Saturday.  The NCAA hasn't predetermined where the number one seeds will be playing because they like to keep them as close to home as possible.
