The Poll Attacks

Alabama got zero votes in last week's Coaches poll. Then the Crimson Tide barely beat Auburn, lost to Ole Miss and ... got six points in the Coaches poll. Not sure how that happens. But it sure does make the Poll Attacks simple.

(Details of AP ballots courtesy of PollSpeak.com.)

Associated Press poll:
Florida is 22-6 overall, 11-3 in the SEC, ranked 14th in the AP poll, 14th in the Coaches poll and 16th in the Top 25 (and one). The Gators are 4-2 against top-25 RPI schools, 9-2 against top-50 RPI schools, 13-3 against top-100 RPI schools and in possession of a two-game lead in the SEC East.

And yet Izzy Gould from The Birmingham News left them off his AP ballot.

But he's got Kentucky 15th and Vanderbilt 21st.

Which means he ranked two SEC East schools -- and neither of them are SEC East-leading Florida.

Beyond that, he ranked Virginia Tech 24th.

Which means he ranked a Virginia Tech team that's 1-3 against top-25 RPI schools, 2-5 against top-50 RPI schools and 7-5 against top-100 RPI schools, but didn't rank a Florida team that's 4-2 against top-25 RPI schools, 9-2 against top-50 RPI schools and 13-3 against top-100 RPI schools. Needless to say, Izzy was blown away by the Hokies' win over Duke. I mean, really, really, really blown away. Most impressive thing he's ever seen, apparently.

Coaches poll: If the NCAA tournament started today -- and it doesn't, so relax -- Alabama might sneak in as an at-large. Or it might not. The point is that it would be close, and if you're that close to missing the NCAA tournament in late February then you probably shouldn't be getting votes for a Top 25 poll ... especially when you're coming off a loss to Ole Miss.

Still, Alabama got six points in Monday's coaches poll.

And that's not even the strangest part.

The strangest part is that the Crimson Tide got zero points in last week's poll when they were 18-8 overall, 10-2 in the SEC. Then they barely beat Auburn and lost to Ole Miss, and somehow that convinced coaches to vote for them. Strange. Bottom line, Alabama shouldn't have been on anybody's ballot last week or this week, but it's impossible to omit the Crimson Tide last week and add them this week. And by impossible, I mean idiotic and inexplicable.

It is simple for MSU.  Beat UM on Sat and your in the NCAA as the # 4 big ten team at 10-8 in conf. Lose and finish 6th* and UM is in as the #4 big ten team. Then the only way MSU gets into dance as the #6 big ten team ited with  UM ILL and probably PSU is to win the opener against Ia or IU and beat #3 Wisc. with the possibility of also needing to beat conf # 2 OSU** or PU.

*regardless of a 3 or 4 way tie at 9-9 under all scenarios UM would finish 4th ILL 5th and MSU 6th.

**If Wisc wins at OSU on Sunday PU wins the conf.

OK, ummm like I said, go to bracketology, theres 12 teams there
I don't give a rats Ass who Lunardi or you are for that matter.  MSU, Marquette and BC will not make the Tourney.  Trust me, Weber State will win their Conf. Tournament and be in.  Even if they don't, that's still 6 tournament teams faced.  Not bad for a team undeserving......Duke has been a National Powerhouse for Decades, they should have to play and beat 15 Tournament teams a year.....

MSU(undeservedly), Marquette and BC all have a better chance then weber state. Are we talking fact or fiction or your beliefs, which are obviously smarter then Lunardi. Maybe CBS should hire your for Bracketology.Im arguing something thats in writing, your arguing with your beliefs. But believe this, BYU will def not be a #1 seed now without Davies.
PS-i think we do try to play 15 a year!

Well you better get used to it, because without Davies, they are right back to not deserving a number 1 seed!

So you're saying that until last night they were deserving of a #1 seed?  Man, you contradict yourself without even knowing it.......

OK, ummm like I said, go to bracketology, theres 12 teams there. Your not Joe lunardi so I could give a crap what you think. So that makes 12 teams as of now, vs 6 teams ( I dont see Weber St in Brackets?) So that is 6 vs 12, that is double the amount, but thats about the same to you? Wake up dude. FYI, your a doubtfull #1 seed now after losing Davies.

The Poll Attacks

Where in his post did he "bitch and moan that BYU doesn't deseve to be where they are"? And as far as "realize there are other teams out there"...He clearly said "BYU is a good team"  So what is YOUR problem? What do you want him to say? BYU is the greatest thing since sliced bread! OMG!! Jimmer is so much better than MJ was in college! Grow up and quit playing cowboys and indians. BYU is good, OSU is good, Duke, Pitt, Kansas, ND....they are all good so why do we have to have it shoved in our face like this? I just don't get it......Cest la vie and Go Bucks!

Did you really just OMG in your post?  I never said anyone bitched and moaned, it was a generalization of what most "Major" conference hogs do when a little guy is in the mix.....  I know all of these teams are good, and any one of them could win the Tournament, I do not think BYU can or will, but I'm tired of the whole "They don't deserve a #1 seed" babble.  They are where they are and they'll get what they deserve.  End of Story!
