Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

Posted on: March 3, 2011 7:14 am

Brandon Davies was suspended from BYU's basketball team for the remainder of the season because he violated the part of the school's honor code provision that prohibits premarital sex, according to a report in The Salt Lake Tribune.

The paper reported that Davies acknowledged the violation to BYU officials Monday.

BYU announced Davies' suspension on Tuesday.

"Everyone makes mistakes in their life," said BYU's Charles Abouo. "We are reaching out and trying to help him get through this."

Davies was averaging 11.1 points and a team-leading 6.2 rebounds. The No. 3 Cougars lost 82-64 Wednesday night to New Mexico in their first game without Davies. They close the regular season Saturday against Wyoming.

Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

So when you come to an agreement prior to signing, that means nothing? This guy you want to take up for even knew the consequnces for breaking certain "honor code" rules. So to cry and shout after the fact only makes you look like a lil' b*tch for signing with the school. This is why, as of yet, Davies is not doing it himself. He's the one its affects the most, yet all the crying is going on here form people that continuously want to manuver around the actual facts.

Personally I think that it's dumb and that they should have a system in place to give a guy a least one more shot before telling him he's gone, BUT in this case that's not even the point. It's as cut and dry as signing a contract at a place like this ALWAYS is.

As well, im going to look into it becuase I don't know, I think you have to be a member of the church to attend BYU. Forcing someone into a religion in exchange for school??? Certainly that would violate some sort of "rights".

If Mormons don't allow blacks in heaven why do they allow them on the basketball court?

Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

"Everyone makes mistakes in their life," said BYU's Charles Abouo. "We are reaching out and trying to help him get through this."
I went to a private Christian university when i got out of high school. It had similar rules and actually had people driving around town looking for cars at bars nightly with a school parking pass on it. If the student was caught at a bar, they were suspended. I was suspended for missing too many chapel services.

The statement, "everyone makes mistakes in their life" makes my stomach churn. Everyone who goes to BYU is forced to go to church and follow the Mormon code in order to get their education. That is fine. However, the statement they are "trying to help him get through this" reminds me of how I dealt with my suspension.

I didn't go back. I chose another school and never regret that choice for a minute. These no tolerance codes are a perfect way to drive people away from your religion instead of helping them get through anything. If Brandon Davies turns his back on the Mormon religion, there is nothing to blame but a no tolerance policy that punishes instead of helps.

Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

Has anybody ever been to Utah?  I have been there twice for business.   Beautiful state... lots of snow capped mountains, and insane architecture especially the mormon churches.   The last time i was there the businessmen I was with had a box at game 6 of the jazz v lakers game and they didnt serve any alcohol.  It was at that time when I understood what salt lake city is all about.  I mean, no alcohol is one thing... but during a playoff game??  that is crazy talk!!!  I called shenanigans on them and left, and I call shenanigans on this story!!!   The fact of the matter is that nobody deserves to have their personal life ousted like this and this guy probably felt like crap when he let his "spiritual guard" down and slipped up.  The suspension is not going to do anything but give him more free time to get tempted to do even more stupid things.

So to reitterate, I call shenanigans on BYU and the people of Salt Lake City!  SHENANIGANS!!!

Yeah....and he KNEW the rules of this SPECIFIC University before he even signed here.....dumb a$$ whiny b !tches!!!! Getting "caught" for something is the biggest mistake??? Are you stupid or did you miss the facts of whats going on here whether you agree with BYU or not?? Don't let facts get in the way of what you post stupid s**t. If you could say anything was his "biggest mistake" it was in him signing with BYU knowing he could'nt keep it in his pants. Just come out already and say "stupid mormons" or something like that. That's fine by me....and they expect people to say it.  Get right to what you think the issue is here and be done with it because there ain't a damn thing you or anybody else can do about it. BYU ain't going anywhere anytime soon. Lastly, douche, the state does go after polygamists. Do some research (i.e. Tom Green, Warren Jeffs, etc.) The idiot all over TLC's show about it is next....lame.

Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

This is a completely justified suspension. This is BYU we're talking about. They call themselves 'The Lord's University'. Every student knows what they are getting into going there. No sex, no alchohol... period. They have always had zero tolerance for violations of their honor code, and every player/student knows this.
