Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

Posted on: March 3, 2011 7:14 am

Brandon Davies was suspended from BYU's basketball team for the remainder of the season because he violated the part of the school's honor code provision that prohibits premarital sex, according to a report in The Salt Lake Tribune.

The paper reported that Davies acknowledged the violation to BYU officials Monday.

BYU announced Davies' suspension on Tuesday.

"Everyone makes mistakes in their life," said BYU's Charles Abouo. "We are reaching out and trying to help him get through this."

Davies was averaging 11.1 points and a team-leading 6.2 rebounds. The No. 3 Cougars lost 82-64 Wednesday night to New Mexico in their first game without Davies. They close the regular season Saturday against Wyoming.

Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

Honor code details are repeatedly discussed with recruits and players, including video explanations of HC expectations.  This isn't slipped in with a stack of papers to sign.  HC is also discussed with athlete's parents and every athlete must have an ecclesiastical endorsement regarding his/her character.  Brandon Davies is a good kid who made a mistake.

BYU, Church, coaches, friends and community support Brandon in getting through a difficult situation.  Hopefully, he knows we love and support him and that his future happiness and success is more important than the school's athletic fortunes.  That statement comes from someone who is as rabid a BYU sports fan as there is--but individuals are still more important in the eternal scheme of things.  That is the attitude which allows students and athletes to have the special "BYU experience."   --AliBongo

BYU makes it perfectly clear they are 50 years behind the times. I've met several Morman girls in my lifetime, and most don't drink, don't smoke but love to get down.

Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

When BYU cheated San Diego State in football this past season, was that part of the honor you speak of? Two out of three people in the replay booth were either an employee or somehow affiliated with the program. I don't even have to worry about denials here, as the Mountain West Conference investigated and suspensions were handed down to all three in the booth. As other AD's across the country were interviewed about the booth setup, it became quite clear that BYU had circumvented accepted protocols, such as not having an employee in charge of deciding which video feeds to let the head official review. Also, the other BYU affiliated person was put in charge of monitoring the live television feed, which kept showing the obvious BYU fumble, but he chose to say nothing? I guess that was in keeping with the honor code?

koolmike, your comment implying mormons have numerous wives is archaic, uninformed, and plain stupid.  Insofar as the "most absurd excuse for religion that has ever existed..."  wow, you are quite naive.  Regarding BYU being irrelevant, then -- why are you even commenting here?  Because you are trying to convince others they are irrelevant?

Pot calling the kettle black Mr. Obsurd, try absurd. Calling people stupid for bad spelling, looks like you came to a brain fight without your dictionary.
