Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

Posted on: March 3, 2011 7:14 am

Brandon Davies was suspended from BYU's basketball team for the remainder of the season because he violated the part of the school's honor code provision that prohibits premarital sex, according to a report in The Salt Lake Tribune.

The paper reported that Davies acknowledged the violation to BYU officials Monday.

BYU announced Davies' suspension on Tuesday.

"Everyone makes mistakes in their life," said BYU's Charles Abouo. "We are reaching out and trying to help him get through this."

Davies was averaging 11.1 points and a team-leading 6.2 rebounds. The No. 3 Cougars lost 82-64 Wednesday night to New Mexico in their first game without Davies. They close the regular season Saturday against Wyoming.

So Davies' girlfriend took BYU's No. 1 seed.
No Davies girlfriend took Davies No. 1 seed from what i've read. If she'd took BYU's then she'd probably be a Sypher and BYU would be UL.

Anyway it's obviously this kids beliefs. Everyone is different and entitled to freedom of religion the last time I checked. So to each his own.

karzab, If the ecclesiastic leader has the opportunity to 'resolve the issue', it sounds like the door is open for Brandon to possibly return, but not this year certainly.  If he were to, however, I can imagine that the taunts and hilarious chants on opposing courts would be brutal for the guy.  I hope things work out, he sounds like a great kid!

How exactly do the 'BYU Officials' find out about these things?  Is there a requirement that a student 'acknowledge the violations' to university officials once committed?  Was he asked about this or turned in?
BYU students go through an interview with their ecclesiastical leaders each year and are asked if they are living the honor code.  Continual enrollment in the school requires an ecclesiastical endorsement from this leader, which is good for one year.  If their answer is no, their leader works with the honor code office to help them resolve the issue and make the answer a yes.  As long as the answer is no, they don't get the ecclesiastical endorsement, which is required to attend the university.

Students are also expected to report infractions that they witness to the honor code office, though few usually do.  In this case Brandon turned himself in willingly.  It may have come during the ecclesiastical interview, I don't know, but nobody else turned him in.

I wonder, now, if BYU sees the infraction as nullifying his current ecclesiastical endorsement.  That would make him ineligible to attend school.  There's nothing that says specifically, as far as I know, the conditions upon which a current ecclesiastical endorsement can be nullified.  I may be wrong on that.

Just when I start to forget how stupid people are I read these posts and I remember.  Horrible grammar, bad spelling, and absolutely obsurd statements.  Multiple wives is the desperate jump most ignorant people take.  Cult, brainwashing, wow that is amazing.  I feel bad for his teammates.  Everything will turn out fine for the kid.  I just ask if you don't know what you are talking about, don't just bash ignorantly.

Hey Davies, transfer to SDSU.  You'll LOVE it here!  No Religious requirements and plenty of the 3 B's:  Beer, Babes, Beach.

Any young studs thinking of going to Utah to study, forget it, learn under Fisher and play at SDSU!
