Posted on: March 11, 2011 6:41 pm
Southern California has suspended coach Kevin O'Neill for the rest of the Pac-10 tournament because of an incident he had Thursday night with an Arizona fan at a downtown Los Angeles hotel, a source confirmed to

Assistant Bob Cantu will coach the Trojans Friday night against Arizona in the Pac-10 semifinals.

A win could be enough to get the Trojans an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

If you are a coach at SC forget any support from your AD.

Pat Haden is a wus.

Rather than support his coahes he will just bend over and spread em.

Kevin O'Neill is a moron and a hothead...I'm sure all coaches deal with idiot boosters all the time, and they simply smile and walk away. Maybe this is why O'Neill never lasts too long in one place?

Suspended "the rest of the PAC 10 tournament". This implies USC was going to last more than a game. Arizona took care of that last night so big Kev didn't have to miss too many games.

The booster suffered a laceration from the incident. With the stabbings that sometimes take place at USC games, the O'Neills seem like a perfect fit there. Trash admist the spoiled children.

I read in another article that Kevin O'Neil dragged his wife through this whole mess when trying to rough-up some 70-year old from Tucson. I realize those old dudes in the Arizona desert can be be a pain in the butt, but come on Kevin, just let those leathered-skinned senior citizens to go back up to their hotel room without you and the Mrs. trying to right the wrongs you recorded @ the U of A. The lovely Mrs. O'neil was quoted as saying that she thought Kevin was a bit of a jerk when she first met him and we all know that 1st impressions are usually accurate. By the way, Yahoo sports has reported that the old guy looked suspiciously like the icon that was Lute Olson.

Oh yeah. UA fans would have rode him like a horse. Arizona fans can get crude and rude. I graduated from there. I remember the wife of a big booster got run from a home game once. Maybe some unresolved issues from when he was at Tucson.........

I realize that elite-level coaches are under a lot of pressure, but that's the wrong way to blow it off. O'Neill has to wonder about his job. He'd best take a good, long look at his alcohol use as well. This is a shining sign of a substance problem. That aside, whatta dumbass.

For O'Neill's sake it's probably best that he NOT be at the Staples Center tonight after what happened last night...  'Cause I was wondering if, hmmm, maybe some Arizona fans might, oh I don't know, get the idea to REALLY raze him tonight...  Try to provoke him.  It would be a distraction the players don't need.

Coaches aren't immune to the same stupidity the players can show on these tourney trips.

Hell, when your team is sitting so clearly on the wrong side of the bubble (by most people's estimations) and you have a chance to win the automatic bid, I'd suspend him for not being 100% focused on preparing for the next game in the tourney.  Would he want his seniors out getting tipsy the night before a crucial game?

Guess it wasnt' that important to him?

Looking at the pictures it sure looks like KO was hammered. I don't blame him. He won his first game of the tourney, was in the conversation as a potential bubble team, had a shot at getting back at Arizona, again. He had a good reason to have a few. I don't have any issues with that. Unfortunately, his wife was apparently a little more blitzed, and belligerent towards an Arizona Booster. I know how that can be, so it may not have been his fault at all. It could have been his wife's fault, but he'll take the heat and regretfully won't be able to coach tonight, which will take a little of the lustre off the Arizona win. It also hurts the Pac10's chance of getting a fourth team into the dance.
